Just recently picked up a BlackBerry Bold 9700 on the Rogers network, heading to the UK in May. Would like to know if its possible to pickup a SIM card over there and swap it to a British network for while I'm over there - I've been looking at the Virgin network if it matters. It says its a "World Phone" and it uses a SIM card so I assumed I could just swap them, but I just thought about how alot of phones are locked and wasn't sure if that would prevent that.
Also, whats another cheap phone I could pickup for my parents that they would be able to do that with? (My dad is heading to UK in March and my mom to Portugal in May.)
If it's locked, just take it to non-chain phone shop and get it unlocked, shouldn't cost more than a fiver.
I'm vaguely aware that you need to get whichever operator you get the SIM from to send configuration information to the phone for the data connection to work. I know that Virgin (which is the operator I use) has a section on their website where you enter the make and model of phone, and your phone number, and they send a configuration file.
