So as we can all see on the front page (today, Feb. 8th), Mike and Jerry are coming to Southern California for the Book Signing, and since I love hard covers and would like one, I'm planning on going to the Signing they have at the Barnes & Nobel in Huntington Beach. I could very easily be convinced, however, to pushing this back to the Friday and driving into LA if some of the Locals would want to get together and make a whole evening of it on Friday, dinner and drinks and what not after the big event. I've been working overtime for the past 3 or 4 months and it looks like there's a bit of a lull coming in the next week or so, so I should have plenty of time the day of to get out there and also for after-event merriment if others of you are interested in meeting up.
So there you go, interest thread. Express interest and let's set things up.
This did get locked, but apparently common sense rang true and now it is unlocked again.
So anyways, yeah, I'm still doing this because it turns out that my overtime is indeed no longer retarded! Anybody else down still?
EDIT: Also, we need to decide if we're going to be doing Thursday in Huntington or Friday in LA, or both. The only thing about going to the one in LA is that I will be hella late on account of I have to drive up from Irvine. But if we are planning on having after-signing-hang-outs anyway, that probably won't be such a deal.
C'mon, you fuckers, turn out and roll up!

I was thinking about the one on the 26th at the Sunset Blvd store
Heh, no worries, Family comes first. If you and the skinny man have time, I for one would be pleased as punch to have some hang outs, but as they say in Japanese, don't do the impossible.
All right, you silly geese, I'm off to have dinner with my friend, I expect to see peoples all up ins going "Oh, sarukun, we totally want to hang out with you and fill your rock hard abs at Huntington Beach and/or LA at the book signing!"
It sounds like I will have a problem. More people seem to be interested in Friday, but have not agreed to anything. Wait for next week, I would imagine it will gain steam as the date draws near.
I, however, will be a proper nerd, go to the bookstore alone, stand alone like a dork, and then go home alone without having spoken to anyone.
I was mistaken and we're not staying at the same hotel as last time but in the Marriott in Downtown LA
So, uh, can any locals recommend something for a family to do downtown?
Get out of downtown.
No seriously, there is a lot of stuff downtown. I just hate all of it. Are you going to have access to a car?
The hotel will be able to tell you what is close by and what you need to drive to
LA Live is close by. As is Staples Center, for that matter, and Nokia Auditorium. There may be a show or event you guys want to see. But yeah, I'd check out what's easily accessible from the hotel
Downtown is really not a place I would recommend for family outings unless you absolutely fucking love pretentious restaurants.

i would've been down for this, unfortunately the air force saw fit to send me to south carolina with a sprinkling of travels to the middle east until august...
I am 80% about going to Meltdown on Friday, maybe thinking about trying to go to Huntington Beach on Thurs. too but probably not.
Janson and Mori: There's not that much fun stuff to do downtown aside for the pricey shows/venues listed above. You could drive a little west and show your family LACMA and the La Brea Tarpits.Griffith Observatory is also fairly nearby. Of course, there's also Santa Monica and the Getty Museum and the Getty Villa.

Meltdown brings back memories of clubbing in LA when I was in College. I'm gonna try to head out on Friday, but I'm going to hit up Huntington on Thursday just in case I can't make it for whatever reason.
Rachel, go to the Getty, you will not be disappointed.

the huntington library and botanical gardens are also quite nice. don't be mislead by the name though, they're actually up in san marino, not all the way down in huntington.

but it's to meet my parents and siblings
Oh shit, Party at Janson's Parents'/Siblings' house!
No for real, would you guys have any time for hangouts?
We might! Perhaps later on the Saturday or Sunday night? (The twins are only 11, so I can't imagine they'd want to stay up too late).
I'm going to message my dad and see what they're planning to do.
EDIT: I mean *I'd* love to but my dad's paying for the hotel room so he's calling the shots
Edit: The rest of you SoCal silly geese need to get up ins and say "yes let us totally do both of these hangout days".
1) 50/50 chance I have to work Friday night
2) Sunset Blvd on Friday night? No thank you.
So sez I, the almost lurker, that I would at least stop by and have a drink with your folks were there anything going on Thursday night.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
(btw, my name is Ron, and I will be the pale guy with the shaved head and goatee)
WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LOVE ME FOR ME?
Seriously folks, sign up for one night or the other.
Shit, we are going to have a problem.

You are correct, the problem being that based on this description he looks exactly like me.
In any event, it seems as though you jerks don't like fun times and hang outs.
Are you my twin?
Are... are you me???
I may go to the one on Friday, Futility, I'll let you know as we get closer to the actual day.
Mori, figure out your shit so we know if we can make up for shitty-ness of no-one coming out Friday.

I'll check out what's at the hotel. Man my parents expect me to have some sort of itinerary prepared just because I've been to the city once
