physical support for those heavy-ass CPU/GPU coolers
As you can see, its freakin' huge and weighty. I know there are rack style things that can help support coolers, but I don't really want to spend any more money on this already expensive build I've got happening.
What I'm asking is what substances can I use to somehow rig up support whether it be plastic, metal or twine. Of course I wouldn't be wrapping metal wire around any electronic components, but would that be OK securing th Cooler to the case? Additionally, I may be attaching a fan on top of my GPU heatsink (on top of the existing fan), which would need to be held down. Would twine or plastic be OK to wrap around the back of my video card?
I don't think I've ever typed the word 'twine' before this post...
You should be fine just throwing that on without any support; I have a CoolerMaster TX2 which is about the same size (if not slightly bigger), and it's sitting fine.
As long as you don't throw the case on a trampoline, you'll be fine. Modern motherboards are designed to take that kind of weight. I have a big Noctua on my i7 that weighs damn near a kilogram with both fans attached.

buh, my CPU heatsink weights 1.3kg and could eat the Kabuto for breakfast.
but mine has one of those plates that goes behind the mobo and then clamps itself to the backplate.
It's pretty worrying at first, but you'll forget about it after a while.
Hell, I didn't attach my cooler properly the first time, and it promptly fell off and knocked my GPU (not causing any damage to either, thankfully). Massive , but everything worked after reattaching it properly.
How'd you dudes decide on the coolers you picked? I looked at guru3d and ended up with this one because it is cheap and also it works.
I'm going with Noctua because they're known to work and they're quiet. It comes with a whole kit with mounting brackets, 2 fans, & quality thermal paste.
Yeah, I got the Noctua based on a whole pile of good reviews. Also, they were about the only company with a socket 1366 mounting kit when I was putting things together.

I planned out an i7 build 9 months ago and then was delayed for surprise expenses. The Noctua caught my eye with it's reviews and solid kit.
I was tempted to go Zalman but decided to read reviews first, I'm glad I did. Zalman are now over priced for what they are compared to the performance of other brands.
The Megahelm looks very good, especially the black version. My only grip is it doesn't come with fans.
The Cooler Master V10 looks like a top notch Cooler. My problem is I'm going to be using Corsair Dominator which isn't compatible. OCZ Reapers are not compatible with it either.

I'm going with a Noctua myself.

I'm still going with Noctua though.
If you all say so. It just looks so .. awkward
And yes that Cooler Master V10 is a little crazy. I doubt it'd fit in my case
thanks peoples
