AOL Instant Messenger and ports(solved)

I believe the ports in standard AIM clients at work are blocked. Now everyone usually uses AIM express (java client) but recently it has been crashing for everyone on my team. We usually use this to communicate in group discussions instead of clogging up email.

I installed a couple of different AIM clients such as trillian, miranda, gaim but none seem to let me log on. I am belive they are blocking the ports used for instant messenger, 5190. Is there any reason why I can't change this to port 80? Would this be considered bypassing the filter if AIM express works fine? (and management is aware of aim express usage).

Not exactly what you were looking for, but have you tried http://www.meebo.com? Web-based IM client, and you can login with your AIM account. I've had problems with AIM Express too, but Meebo tends to work fine (though I've had days where it chooses to disconnect me every few minutes, and that might have been a network issue).
