I have a set of different pages in pdf files that I want to combine into a single document. I'm not all that familiar with manipulating pdf files, so is there some easy way to do this?
What OS are you using? There are a number of freeware programs around for combining/splitting pdfs. The mac ones are easiest to use (in fact, I think Preview might even let you do this on its own), but linux and PC software exists also.
I'm using WindowsXP, and have a copy of Acrobat on my computer, although it's in Japanese. If I knew how to make the separate pdf files into a single file in English, I'd be able to work out how to do it on that.
I currently use X-Change Viewer for all my pdf related stuff. I'm positive you can merge pdfs together using it..
It really is a nice replacement for Acrobat Reader since it allows you to add comments and basically write on any pdf file and it is completly free. Plus you can add a TOP SECRET stamp with one click. That was enough to convince me to switch.
I'm pretty sure PDFCreator by pdfforge.org should do that for free.
It sure does, you can print multiple pages / documents into the PDFCreator queue and then combine them all into a single document. We use it all the time at work.

When you merge pdfs with x-change it puts a big DEMO stamp on it when you're using the free version.
the newest PDFSam merges like a demon. it'll automatically collate pages from two files (if you scan a stack of paper then flip it over and scan it again into two different files, it'll combine the two into one with the pages in the right order and everything).
If you're using a Mac (or have access to a Mac) running Leopard or Snow Leopard, that functionality is built into the OS. Open up any PDFs you want to merge in Preview and you can drag and drop pages to your heart's content.
If you can't find/don't want to download stuff, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email address and do it at work on sunday for you and send it back. We have Acrobat Pro.
I'm running the version of PDFCreator they mention in that article (0.9.7) on three different machines. I checked all of them and none have the toolbar stuff that article mentions.
I installed the most recent version, declined the Yahoo toolbar and got it anyway. Worse was the 404 error redirect they also installed. The toolbar and redirect were both installed as add-ons to Firefox (I didn't test IE or Chrome), but couldn't be uninstalled there, only disabled. I had to go through the Windows uninstaller to uninstall it.

I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll give PDFSam a try, since this might be something I'll have to do again later.

Use this at your own risk. It will install toolbars and search redirects even if you tell it not to. I tried it out and found the following to be true:

The current version of PDFCreator is 0.9.9
