Hello, forum users. First off, I'd just like to say that I have never been to a PAX event so Prime '10 will definitely be a new experience for me. However, I was hoping I could start communicating a little more with the PAX community so I'm not a totally lost and clueless 20 year old at a gaming event.
Summed up, I'm the team leader for Analog Khaos. We successfully made the Guinness record books in August of 2009, and we're going to do it again for a different record at PAX Prime. However, this time we'll be looking to break the Frag Dolls UK's record for Longest Consecutive Time Playing a First Person Shooter. The current record stands at 24 hours, and our goal is to go to 30. We plan on playing Borderlands for the Xbox 360 from Gearbox Software.
Microsoft, Gearbox, and Turtle Beach have all taken interest in helping us prepare and make sure we'll be able to attend so this event can go through as planned. But, we plan on playing for an undecided charity as well.
I was hoping to get a little input as to how I should go about planning this event as, like I said, I've never been to PAX so any and all support and advice will be very helpful. Thanks in advance!
AK Eclipse
Team Leader,

Hopefully Microsoft will be able to swing something in our favor. I didn't know PAX wasn't an all night thing...
Last year the PAX Seattle hours were 10am-3am on friday/sat and 10am-7pm on sunday.
So no, not all night. Everyone gets thrown out of the convention center at 3am and the doors are locked.
I think thatd be lols :P
I dont see why you couldnt just have a TV/console on a cart out on the sidewalk running off of a generator in the back of a truck at night.
My suggestion is to do just what I said. If MS wants to sponsor it they will have to work it out with the PAX people at where you will be setup, but Just have a TV/console setup on a cart with wheels running off of a semi beefy UPS. When PAX closes just unplug the UPS from teh wall and go on battery power while someone wheels the setup down to street level then plug the UPS into a generator. Play streetside until PAX reopens then wheel the setup back to a plug.
Thats why I said generator. You just need the UPS for the time it takes to wheel a cart outside to a genny.
seems like too much of a hassle to be honest.
I ask cause if you do this it means playing for 24hrs and then however long after this you choose to set the bar at. This said your not really participating in pax events at this point.
We'll be representing Gearbox and Microsoft and playing for charity. I'll be going to PAX East 2011 if they hold one for sure.
Thats why I said a UPS on a cart with Wheels, keep everything setup on the cart.
Someone can wheel the cart outside while they are playing. Controllers are wireless yanno and they can walk with the unit. You dont have to tear anything down.
have somebody video it while somebody else is pushing the cart while the 4 of you are playing?
Why is this such a complex problem? :P
Because, it has to be. Everything in event planning is always difficult. I'll update ya after my contact at MS replies to my e-mail.
SO good luck and don't wind up like George and his frogger machine!
<Qs23> I just need to get my dicks in a row
<prox> i work for dicks
#paforums_pax, all about the dicks.
haha
If you're really dedicated to making this happen at PAX, you might want to make it a charity marathon for Child's Play - I'd imagine that would make the hassle of having a 24 hour operation a little more worth it for some of the expo folk.
Just to get this at the head...if it's not Child's Play, you might need to rethink doing this at PAX
NEW ALBUM OUT, NOW WITH 100% MORE SHEEP!, have a listen will ya
This.
Months of planning and you guys don't know PAX isn't 24 hours and PA is responsible for Child's Play.
I am gonna vote you guys do BigRed's idea. Doesn't sound as complicated as you want it to be.
Fail.
Organizer of the Post-PAX Party. You should come!
Satellite Theater for life!
<.< >.> This!
Good luck though. The cart idea sounded amazing imo. Also, Child's Play is the obvious charity of choice.
But yeah, BigRed's a genius about things like this (among many others), listen to him. Though, if you don't know how to record video of something happening, then maybe leave the logistics to someone else....
(also, BIG second on the leaving everything running through a UPS the entire time, would be dumb and actually more complicated not to.)
I am soo happy to see that I wasn't the only one that thought that....
