today i had a good day snowboarding, until the very very last run of the day, which in hindsight i shouldnt have done (and was considering not doing)
in that i landed funny and hurt my knee some but since i am not used to injuries and since it didn't hurt that bad i was like whatever and
cut to 6 hours later i am sitting at dinner and get up and oh man my joint is hurtin a hurtin, or really is just stiff and hurts to bend, so i slowly limp my way back to my room (which was quite very very far away from where i was eating dinner) and now i am sitting here, with my leg up on my desk, and some ice on my MCL
so until i see a doctor which will be asap, what should i know/do
i've never really had an athletic injury before in my life
So in my non-medical, but twice blown knee, opinion, I think you'll be OK.
Stay off of it until you see a doc. (Meaning, don't fucking ski, getting around is probably OK.)
Most serious Cruciate and Collateral Ligament injuries have a distinct and sickening pop that reverberates throughout the body, and (painfully) resonates within the subconscious for years.
That you are at a 5, and ice and advil help, sounds like a sprain or a tweak. Doc will know best of course, but I'd feel positive headed to bed. Rest well, and I wish you the best. Those reconstructive surgeries and subsequent Physical Therapy sessions were hell. I don't think you're facing them.
I had a really bad blown knee 2 years ago due to a combination of Judo/competivness/husband and while the pain to me the next day was an 8 fourtunatley it was just a strain. What hospital did for me was grap 2 lap pads (think a large tefla pad big enough for a tummy) and wrap those around the knee and held in place with 2 large elasticy bandages. This was to immobilize the knee and I had to stay off it for a few days doing ice and heat. Do recognize that once the intial pain is gone and you can finally shower and crap again it will hurt for a while. If it is bad enough I still use a brace on that one knee.
I went to see school health services doc, who clearly couldn't do more than look a bbit
at the knee and recommend me to an ortho guy, but he said for now just RICE and that it didn't seem too bad to him but wait a few days and then call the doc... Am more tempted to just call the doc so I know what's going on

Did you hear a distinct pop?
On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the pain?
I've had both ACL and MCL reconstruction, (hit by a car at 15, almost lost the leg at the knee.) The failures that follow I recall well.
See the doc, but it could be a strain or a sprain. Painful for sure, but not as bad as blowing the ligament.

distinct pop, not really
1-10, probably around 5, when leg is still it doesnt really hurt much (but i also took an advil)

You'll be fine.
I just sprained my ankle and heard a very lound "pop." I thought it was broke, but nope, I'll be okay.
