XBox360 Dashboard - can I hide unwanted channels?

Is it possible to hide the "Music Marketplace" or "Video Marketplace" from my dashboard in XBox live? I will never use those features and they are just taking up space. They are an annoyance to have to scroll past as I navigate the dashboard. Actually, I'd be perfectly happy to hide everything on the dashboard except for my friends, the marketplace, and my xbox. Everything else is just clutter.

Only thing you can hide is the 'welcome to the dashboard' initial welcome screen part. Everything else, you're stuck with, AFAIK.

Damn. That sucks. So much bulk. The more they update the dashboard, the worse it gets. I don't like all that extra weight.

I think you can call them on the phone and opt out of some of the advertising.

Brief Google searching fails to find a reliable source for this information. I could be wrong. This is nothing more than "something I heard from some guy on some forum" so take with a huge grain of salt.

Meh. Even if I remove the advertising, I still wouldn't be happy with it. I'm the kind of person who hates when things go super mainstream and get incredibly bloated. Kind of like facebook is now. I used to like facebook back when you had to have a college email address in order to use it. Anyway, that's a bit off topic.

I know what you mean. I loved the original dashboard, as it was simple to use and not flashy. Now it's just a pain to use. I always wish that I can just go back and use the old dashboard, and use it with Live.

What amused me was how incredibly long it took me to find out where the active downloads window was. It's not hard to get to (in fact there are several different ways), it's just not even slightly intuitive. I really prefer the PS3's interface (hear that Microsoft? Copy it thoroughly, not just mostly).
