In Terran news (i.e., the only news that really matters), Fortress fast expand into the natural means Zerg ain't getting anywhere near your base until they get mutas.

Fortress should be able to hit air. :x

I can't get on regular Bnet on this computer but if you're willing to download the ICCup launcher I'm down. It takes like 2 minutes. You have to register though...

Is Fortress worth it though? Seems like a couple minutes of mining with the Mule will pay itself back and allow you to get units that are just as good at defending.

Seems map dependant. If the natural is close enough to your main ramp then you can block that off so they can't get in there, and no amount of tier 1 Zerg is going to beat a Fortress with SCVs repairing. It seems that if you can get it early enough then you're free to tech up.

Except for mutas. You need to have a way to stop them from getting into your main. If that means a bunch of marines, then yeah it might be just as good to skip the fortress.

    And Fortress requires gas.

I'm sure it will be explored, because it does seem viable in a few situations.

I'm down for games of sc1. I'm pretty terrible and haven't played more than 2 or 3 games in years though, but I have both iccup and bnet (no longer need different installs, I don't think).

2v2 Ladder makes me rage. Hardcounters are no fun, a match up can go: My units counter this, your units counter that, lets bumrush this guy before his partner can help.

Going P vs T+Z is death, Roaches rape Zealots and Mauraders rape Stalkers, with Roaches on equal footing. That and my partner isn't that good so he always has less units than he should.

People say Map Control isn't as important in SC2, but it's a different story for 2v2.

Yeah 2v2s have never been as rewarding as 1v1, and it sounds like Zerg and Terran are the races of choice for 2v2, whereas they were Zerg and Protoss for SC1.

Then there's the dreaded double Zerg that caused any double race teams to be banned in ProLeague :P

I wonder if the mech build will come back in this game. Might be doubtful since the factory apparently doesn't produce a goliath or anti-air equivalent anymore.

Seems most are skipping factory units and going straight for the starport.

Since you build Viking out of the starport, the only reason to keep the factory on the ground is for siege tanks, which aren't even that great.

As a Zerg player lurkers were like a mixed bag. You can hold a base forever with sunken/spore/lurker defence but then you roll out and try to attack with them and someone drops 2 storms on your entire control group of lurkers and they all just pop :(

I'm almost certain they were not intended to be used in any offensive capacity but like a lot of other things in the game the designed concept was overshadowed. It somehow turned out to be pretty balanced but still, attacking with a unit that takes several seconds to get into position then do some retarded 2 second animation can be more than marginally infuriating.

man i would think that you would be more bothered by stimming marines moving back right when you burrow but i guess that takes more effort and is less effective than throwing out a couple storms.

Can't really complain about ZvT cause swarm was fucking great. Could hold off an entire Terran army with a minimum amount of units. Seriously, the only ranged damage unit that does full damage as well as splash under swarm.

Dunno lurkers are insanely poweful once you do get them down so I guess the whole shitty burrowing thing is good for balance.

It'd be neat if the zerg got a cliff-scaling unit; it seems weird that they don't have one and might be an issue on some maps.

Like, something that burrows into the side of the cliff from the ground and emerges on top.

I thought SC 1.15 removed the physical cd check, I'm fully updated to 1.16whatever, but BW keeps demanding that the cd be in the drive to run.

That aside, something totally whacked out with the resolution/aspect ratio, cuts off 90% of the command bar at the bottom rendering the game rather unplayable.

yeah that's completely true. I guess to me it feels like a really sloppy, poor ergonomically designed balancing mechanism compared to other things in the game. I get the feeling that it really wasn't intended and kind of just happened that way. they got lucky, in a sense.

I read at some point that you'd have to copy some file from the disc in order to remove the disc check. You could also register your cd key on battle.net and download the game from there.
