Margins

For some reason my word processor likes to set all four margins of a new document to 0.79" I know this isn't right but I'm not sure what proper margin sizes are. I normally just change them to 1 inch all around. Is this conventional? I know it's a small question but it kind of bothers me to think that my stuff is formatted weird.

When writing MLA style essays, I always used 1" margins.

    It depends what you're doing.

What Figgy said. Unless there is a specific requirement or convention for what I'm doing I always use 1" margins all around.

Ok that's what I figured. I'm just writing fiction so I think 1" will work.

I use 1" on documents I'm publishing, but for my own drafts I set them to 0.125" left/right/bottom and .5" top, so I have room to staple but otherwise I'm squeezing the most possible words on each sheet.
