...is similar at its' core to Ultima Online. I really don't care how popular it is. I'm severely disappointed in the spread of MMO's right now, and I just long for a good sand-box style MMO. The major things about UO that I loved were one; the crafting, and two; just how realized the social and non dungeon-crawling aspects of the game were. This, a game where it was actually fun to just hang out in the guild-hall grinding skills, chatting, or waiting to ambush criminals. I've looked around a little, Entropia Universalis, or whatever it's called was annoying, and A Tale in the Desert looked promising for about an hour...what else is there?
I know that a lot of people will want to say; just play UO! I've tried...I've just played too much of it to still enjoy it. I'm not really expecting anyone to be able to help me, as my thorough (I think) googling hasn't found me anything. This is a last ditch effort to fulfill the craving.
There are server emulations of UO, and more importantly operating on pre-EA publishes. The legality of some of these player run shards is hazy, some say it is legal to play on these servers as long as you own a legal copy of the game.
Well...it might be fun if a bunch of us got together as newbs...there are enough in this thread.
Might have better luck in G&T though.
It would be fun if we all trained and hoarded money for a big guild house, and then we trained and honed the skills until we just go around killing people all over the shard. We could be disruptionists. And we would force people to know our name. Wear unified colors, etc..
If people don't like us they are free to just come kill us.
That is the beauty of UO that you do not find in other shitty MMOs like WoW.
Or almost any MMO out there atm.
Though, nothing will recreate the wonder, excitement, and adventure you experienced in that game. Going though the forest with 50% skills and a set of bone armor, only to get PK'd by some red dude you tried to run from via the yew gate; and watched pathetically as he looted your corpse and threw your useless shit on the ground while all you could say was "Ooo Ooo OOooooo oOOOOOoo O OO o OOOOOOOOO".

The closest thing was Star Wars Galaxies a few years ago, and now that too is dead.
All MMOs out today are crap at the core.
I've tried it, it's just not very well done.
Just give up man, just give up.
I've been there countless times, and everything I've tried has just lead to disappointment.
Otherwise, you're out of luck.
Though it would only be fun if you were in some kind of guild of PAers.
And even then, it would only last for a little while. But imagine being a band of well trained and unified killers.

And a chain of command.
