I just recently wiped a virus-ridden Sony Vaio VGN-NW110D (not sure if thats a zero or an O) for a relative, and installed windows 7 as per their request. Problem is, Sony's driver download page is pretty much telling me to go silly goose myself.
Most noticeably, the touchpad scroll functionality is missing. I'd also assume the webcame won't quite work, but that's of little importance.
Is there anywhere else I might possibly find drivers for this machine? What are my options?
I'd love to be the one disappoint you when I don't fall down
Unfortunately with laptops you are pretty much stuck with either Linux or whatever operating systems the manufacturer is willing to support for that model.
Most laptop touchpads are Synaptics these days, so the drivers here should do the trick admirably. On my (slightly) old Dell laptop, if I ever reinstalled Windows, I'd go for the touchpad drivers on the Synaptics site instead of the ones that came on Dell's driver disc simply because I got more functionality out of the site drivers.

It thinks it's a regular ps/2 mouse =/ I can't seem to find the hardware ID either to run a search on that, it just says SNY9001 in the device manager, which I'm guessing is the default synaptics designation

Vista and 7 both would see my Dell touchpad as a PS/2 mouse, too, so you should be able to download and install one of those generic drivers from the Synaptics site.
Actually, what type of scroll functionality is missing? Is it multi-touch or circular scrolling, or is it edge-of-the-touchpad scrolling? Those generic drivers allow you to set up edge scrolling, but not multi-touch or circular. For that, your best bet might be to contact Sony, particularly since they don't even list that model on their eSupport site. O_o
Try pulling the device/vendor ID from your webcam as well, if it's connected on an internal USB 2.0 bus you can probably use a driver from any other vendor with the same hardware and it'll work. Also try the Vista drivers in compatibility mode.

Try the generic drivers from HP. (Direct link to the EXE here.)

I force fed it the ALPS vista drivers, and it seems to be working. Thanks!
