Come on PAX - this is a big fu to your international community ...

The only reason you were coming to PAX was to be in the BFBC2 tourney? I'm sure you won't have any trouble offloading your ticket, there's a whole thread of people that actually like PAX that are dying to get ahold of them.

Really? - do you think they will want to buy my 600$ flight from Vancouver? - non refundable

Yes the only reason I am going is for the tournament - im not a industry figure - im a gamer

To release information like this on such short notice is BS

I can't believe that someone would pay $600 for a flight to an event without bothering to find out a single damn thing about it.

That's just silly, and you have noone to blame but yourself.

It may be helpful to inform yourself on the event you're going to before you go on an inane rant. You are mistaken if you think a lan tournament is the only reason for a gamer to go. And it's pretty easy to find out

This is an issue that you should take up with the people who are presenting the tournament (EA, DICE, NVIDIA) and not the convention that's hosting it.

As far as not knowing what PAX is, here's a blurb from paxsite.com/paxeast/faqs.php (also known as FAQ PAGE)
PAX East is a three-day game festival for tabletop, videogame, and PC gamers. We call it a festival because in addition to dedicated tournaments and freeplay areas we've got nerdcore concerts, panel discussions, and an exhibitor hall filled with booths displaying the latest from top game publishers and developers. Even with all this amazing content the best part of PAX East is hanging out with other people who know their shit when it comes to games.

Next time you spend so much to travel to a convention, it might be a good idea to find out what the show is about.

I sent multiple emails to different people at geforce lan and pax about the tournament but didnt get any real info - (esp not US only)

To be honest I barely read about PAX itself because it doesnt concern me - Im there for the lan tournament

I guess it doesnt make alot of sense to the casual gamer but for competitive fps players your interest is online leagues and lan tournaments - not all the casual stuff

I posted here hoping to warn other canadians or europeans that were interested in the tournament
And to display my displeasure with this choice

Hopefully somene at PAX can help the international gamers in some way

They do! They host a GIANT CONVENTION AROUND THE TOURNAMENT.

As for the official rules of the tournament, they are clearly stated on the tournament website (which is not officially related to PAX) -- http://battleforpax.com/rules -- which I was able to find with a google search and 10 seconds of clicking.

[EDIT] Apologies if i came across as a silly goose. I forget sometimes that sarcasm translates easily online to silly gooseness.

PAX is not about competitive tournament play, also this is up to nvidia since its their contest. Since its a cash prize they cant really get around US contest laws and have to limit it to US citizens.
Sorry you didn't see the relevant info before you purchased your plane ticket and such but theres not really a way around this.

You still could go to PAX and enjoy the event and even play in other tournaments that don't have cash prizes, those are open to international people.

Come on PAX - this is a big fu to your international community ...

I'm going to step in here and clarify something real quick. There are laws in regards to contests/promotions/tournaments that have prizes attached to them. Each country has their own set of laws for these kinds of things and it makes it incredibly difficult for a company to abide by all of them. The standard procedure for contests/promotions/tournaments is that they will be open to people who are a resident of the country that it's being hosted in. Not to mention that even if you were to win something, you are responsible to pay the GST/VAT plus any applicable duties when crossing the border for whatever your prize would of ended up being.

I hope that helps a little bit.

Hi, Weaz - sorry to hear that you're not happy with the rules of the tourney. I apologize for the confusion, but we sadly aren't running that tournament, and given the cash prize for that specific one, it's my understanding they don't want to deal with the tax elements of an international prize winner.

You may want to ask the Nvidia folk if they don't mind paying out the prize to one of your U.S. Citizen friends and in turn you would work something out with them. I'm not saying this is possible, but I'm trying to come up with options for you.

Anyway - again, I'm sorry for the confusion. We also have other, non-cash-prize tourneys that we host, but as has been stated before, if you're looking for huge payouts, PAX definitely isn't the right choice of a show. We're more of a cultural experience rather than a tournament one.

Well thats doubtful because most people know that nearly EVERY LAN EVER excludes international people. Honestly you want to come off as some "pro" player but we simply don't care . If you were some uber competitive type you would of know long before now that you most likely would of been excluded simply coming from the great north. Did you simply assume because there were no rules posted that they did not exist? I am sorry but you knew that this could happen why else did you try and get a hold of people? Yet you still took the chance got a non refundable plane ticket to the tournament, have you never thought about travelers insurance? So the only person you can blame is your self the best thing you can do now is try and get rid of that plane ticket and sell the pass to someone that wants to have fun.

Booking a flight to PAX might have been one of the best mistakes that you have ever made. Come to Boston, spend a weekend with fellow gamers, pwn some noobs, meet some new friends... there may not be a cash prize waiting for you, but there will be a whole lot of fun.
