Recommend me some podcasts

My fancy new droid + car dock are having a good old time, especially since my car has an 1/8" auxiliary input on the stereo.

I also just downloaded Google Listen, which is a fantastic little podcast manager.

The problem is that I only have one podcast to subscribe to (Gamers With Jobs Conference Call), and I need some more material for driving to and from school and work.

What do you guys listen to? I'm looking for pretty much anything, though like most of us I imagine I lean more towards the nerdy and tech-y type stuff.

The Bugle - Audio Newspaper For A Visual World
John Oliver (of The Daily Show) has a news related podcast with another stand up comedian from England.
Worth checking out if you like The Daily Show.

    The Bugle is fantastic.

If you like games, the Bombcast and Idle Thumbs are both good listens.

I also like In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg. It can be a little thick and heavy (in the last 6 weeks, they've covered "the infant brain", Calvinism, the Indian rebellion, "unintended consequences in maths", Ibn Khaldun and Silas Marner), but I find it quite interesting and end up learning a lot.

This American Life is the best podcast ever.

If you're into copyright issues at all, Search Engine from TVO is wonderful, and CBC's Spark is great for general tech/internet/culture talk. Both are pretty Canada-focused, though, in terms of discussing our (many, many) problems with internet access and our (horrible) telcos and things like that, but there are lots of non-Canada discussions too.

The Bugle is, in addition to being fucking awesome, also just over 100 podcasts in. If you're looking for free entertainment that'll last you a long while, there it is.

Uhh Yeah Dude is an entertaining, albeit random current/humor podcast

Indiana Jones Indycast has an awesome Australian host, and is fun.

Retronauts, because they talk about games you've played or are likely to be familiar with

News from Lake Wobegon: nuff said.

This Week in Tech is something you might like, although I don't personally listen to it.

This Week in Tech - Leo Laporte and guests discussing tech news. Essentially TechTV reborn. Great stuff.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Fantastic podcast if you play PC games.

I also like Maximum PC's podcast though I don't listen to it that often. Listening to Gordon rant can be the high point of a work day though.

These guys have a variety of pod casts to check out from tech to movies.

    My fav: http://revision3.com/trs

Also, for podcast software you should also take a look at Miro and the Zune software which even adds a Podcast folder/support to Windows.

TWIT, as mentioned. Leo Laporte is like the Jay Leno of tech shit, except cooler.

Smodcast, if you're a fan of Kevin Smith. Not even necessarily his movies either, just the man, listening to him talk. It's interesting.

Most of the rest of my podcasts are linux-related or Revision3 stuff.

I tried to listen to that but the guy that was presenting it had the most irritating manner. It was like listening to William Shatner on Valium.

I tend to go with the BBC Radio 4 podcasts. Particularly "From our own correspondent", "Material World", and "In our Time".

    Give me some Linuxcast recommendations.

    Righto.

Quick method: Download the OPML file I exported from gpodder, and import it into yours (assuming you're using gpodder): http://rapidshare.com/files/359757930/seeks_podcasts.opml.html

Long version (spoilered for people who don't care about linux podcasts):
*A bit of a "warning," I guess you could call it... these are all no-budget or very very low-budget, because that's how I tend to prefer my podcasts. A lot of these are also by the same handful of people. I'll start with the ones that aren't, though (sorry, you're going to have to bust out Google... way too lazy to link it all):

    - FLOSS Weekly: TWIT, except for open-source stuff. Leo Laporte, Randal Schwartz, etc. This is the exception to my "no budget" warning.
    - Going Linux: I haven't listened to a lot of it, but it's sort of a generic intro/explanations of linux type podcast.
    - Linux reality: Same as Going Linux, except it's no longer being updated. I think I slightly prefer this one of the two.
    - Linux Basement: Don't listen to this much either, but it's pretty popular.
    - mintCast: Podcast about general linux stuff, put out by some of the guys from Mint... I think.
    - Linux Action Show: I'm not even subscribed to this one, but I hear about it a lot. I think it's a video podcast.

Aforementioned shows that have a lot of the same guys on them:

    - The Bad Apples podcast: Dude named Klaatu's podcast. He puts out a bunch of podcasts. He's a pretty cool guy, I've exchanged a couple emails with him. He's an ex-apple user. Get it!? This is one of my mains.
    - The Linux Link Tech Show (TLLTS): I think this is... MonsterB's podcast. He has a lot of guests on, interviews people, etc. Another one my "regulars".
    - Linux Cranks: Interesting round-table of dudes talking shit to each other, cracking jokes, and talking about linux stuff. Cast often includes Klaatu, monsterb, another guy named "330" who's also all over the place, etc.
    - TiT: Recursive acronym for "TiT Isn't TWIT". It's basically the same as Linux Cranks. Same people even. Well, actually, right now it's in the middle of changing formats a bit. The official name seems to have changed to "Today in Tech," but it'll probably change back, I bet.

Something else to look at it Hacker Public Radio (hackerpublicradio.org), which actually "broadcasts" a few of these shows, along with tons of other shit. It's basically all linux-related.

There's more, but I don't feel like typing it all out. 8-) Check out the OPML file if this just isn't enough for you, haha.

    For gaming:

Giant Bombcast - Took me a while to find the hook but these guys are chilled as fuck and funny as hell.

For comedy (all from the BBC):
Friday Night Comedy - Topical Brit news quiz comedy.
Adam and Joe - Comedy with a slight music slant, very British and always worth a listen.
Danny Baker - Basically a football phone-in show for people (like me) that don't like football. An excuse for people to share funny stories about vaguely sport related topics. Danny Baker is a master at what he does.

    For films:

Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo (from the BBC again). Mark Kermode is without doubt the finest film critic on the planet. Best heard when he is slating a movie, the man gives good rant. Hilarious, knowledgeable, and always entertaining. Simon Mayo may be a lumpy-faced godbotherer, but he's a perfect straight man in this relationship.

Yeah, definitely check out the Giant Bombcast. 1up's Retronauts is great too, but it's only done every 2 weeks.

I haven't checked it out yet, but the official EA podcast interests me since it's hosted by Jeff Green, who was a part of one of the greatest podcasts ever, GFW Live.

Use Miro, it doubles as a music and video player while being able to download torrents as well. It's pretty fast, I once download a ~1GB podcast at 10Mb/s, it was crazy.
