DISCLAIMER: I am by no means a Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony fan boy. I simply call it like I see it.
OK, so here is what I think is going to go down this year:
Microsoft will put out a new version of the 360 with HDMI and a bigger hard drive. It will be priced at $399 and take over the price point of the Pro system. The Pro system will be dropped to the price of $299, the price of the Core system. The Core system will either drop to $250 OR go away completely. This would give them an opportunity to combat Nintendo's $250 price point as well as throw out the same bells and whistles as the PS3 for still less money. O-and a good likely hood for that mysterious black 360 from X06 to come out in time for Christmas 07. And of course Halo 3 will sellout like it is the last game anyone will ever play.
The only thing I can see Nintendo doing this year is releasing the Wii in new colors, but even that is a far stretch. And the DS will continue to sell hand over fist as it always does. Nintendo’s approach, if it ain’t broke…
Sony, I would hope, will bit the bullet and drop their price $100 at the least. It’s the only thing that is going to really start moving their systems off the shelves (I was at two stores today and they were both very well stocked). And with them loosing the exclusive titles, well, it’s not looking very promising. I have faith in Sony as a company and I have no doubt the PS3 has some long legs on it, but it needs to be able to stand up and walk before it can run. The PSP will continue to flounder. Selling ‘ok’ but never being the shining star that Sony wants it to be. SO Sony will go give it another try with a remolded PSP with a hard drive and a camera. And will be nifty…but barely anyone will buy it…

Note that I hate Sony right now.
If any 360 sku drops to $250, then Microsoft will own me.
Ohh, yeah. My prediction is that we'll get a PSP with a hard drive, and a price cut on the old PSP.
As far as tech specs, but units will be exactly the same with the exception of said hard drive.
I mean, if you are willing to pay 500 dollars when it lowers its price, then 600 is not a lot more in relative terms.
Plus, you know, Sony are idiots.
I can't really add anything.
Yeah.

Why? $50 is less than the price of a new game. I could understand if it dropped at least $100, because at least then you would balance the cost of the hard drive, but $50?
Assuming anything he said comes true (which other than the DS lite will continue to sell, doesn't seem likely), why not just save more money and pick up the premium? It's an even bigger net gain.
I think the Wii will take an equal third of all console sales, by selling as a second console to many of the people in the aforementioned groups, as well as Nintendo fans and brand new gamers drawn into the fray by the Wii's unique controller and games.
I'm so poor that I won't buy anything until it's the same price as the Wii that I already own.
Microsoft did that in europe with the origional xbox.

Why? The price drop of the PS2 from $149 to $129 saw a huge increase in sales.
See, it doesn't matter if the price drop is $100 or $20. All you need are some signs that say "NEW LOW PRICE" and TV advertising, and people will be all over it.

The point is that it's TOO SOON.
A price drop THIS SOON makes the system look weak. It says to the consumers that SOny made a MISTAKE with the original price, and consumers begin to wonder, if Sony messed up on the price, maybe they messed up on other things. Maybe it's not a good idea to get one because it might not be that great.
Also, I'm not quite sure that Sony can AFFORD a drice drop on the PS3
But they're talking about the 360?
The OP talked about the PS3, which wouldn't work... but... they're very different arguments.
Damn it, I was gonna say that Nintendo will release a sequel to Nintendo dogs from its pipeline.

If the 360 drops in price by the summer, and the Wii (following it's older bro's footsteps) is still in a drought, I'll be all over it.
I think this next year will be relatively uneventful - 360 will keep being solid, if not exceptional; PS3 will be trying to establish itself while gamers mock it (until a big FF game comes out); and the Wii might get lucky if one or two good online games come out. DS will rape, PSP will flaunt its similar sales in the US.

But then shooting it in the leg before you buy it.
Nintendo will release a sequel to Nintendogs on the Wii, that's a collection of ridiculously fun minigames you can play with your "dog", and the ability to take it for a walk as your mii in an MMO-size world with all the other players around the world. Possibly for an access fee through Wii Shop.
Because Nintendo likes money.

I can't see the PS3 really getting that much market share, or more accurately catching up to the 360 at this point, at least not within its first year (that would ultimately mean the 360 would slow down in sales, odds are that will not happen). The PS3 needs to play catch for at least a year, if not longer.
With less exclusive titles on either console, there really isn't any incentive for those with a 360 to pick up a PS3 (yet). The other side to that is that there will be less titles/skus on the market for this next year of this generation versus the previous generation. The previous generation (PS2/Xbox/Game Cube) also has a slow start with titles, but development costs were less and once everyone was acclimate with the hardware, they were literally flooded with titles, I can’t see that being the case with this generation.
The idea that a price drop for the PS3 will make the system look weak is right, except to the American market. The American market doesn’t see a drop in the dollar as weak, more as an advantage. As someone said, when the PS2 fell to $129 it sold very well. But can Sony truly afford to drop the price, no, not really. They are already hemorrhaging money on the PS3 and will continue to do so for some time. Until they are able to bring down their development costs, they have to eat the loss.

The HDMI xbox thing is a pretty widespread rumor and has been confirmed by a few magazines.
Not to say that it's true, but it's far form unfounded. And it makes perfect sense.
Yes but the rest of the Xbox content is just conjecture.

edit:...I should have added "will happen"
I predict the Wii is going to be a huge hit and Nintendo will have no reason to drop the price until, say November or December.
The 360 needs a price drop before the holidays. Halo 3 and GTA4 on a system for $300? MS will have a rape party in NA that month.
at best I'd expect a bundle. maybe an extra game and/or controller (something like wii play), but I don't think you will see people spending less than $250 and walking out a door with one.
I dunno
Microsoft to kill, rape, and eat Nintendo's fucking costume?
