Dead Rising, and Project Gotham Racing 3. Great showpiece for the system's graphical capabilities, awesome racing experience, and if you only have two games, you're going to need two games of extreme contrast/variety. Dead Rising + Project Gotham will do that for you. The other huge benefit here is that PGR3 is only $20 now.

    edit: high five, xzzy!

Alternatively, I'd go with a Saint's Row + Splinter Cell combo. Again, contrasts: One loud, silly, and carefree; one quiet, focused and intelligent. Both excellent games.

Don't get R63 if you don't have LIVE.

Dead Rising would only not be recomended if you have a standard definition TV set.

What are you looking for in the games though? We can all list games we like but you need to at least give us a general idea. Ie Best Tacticle Shooter and Best Racer.

Also pony up the piddling amount and get Geometry Wars.

I'll say Dead Rising and Gears of War. Far as I can tell, they're the best games out.

I wish I could say N3, because Tetsuya Mizuguchi is god in my eyes, but the reviews speak for itself. I guess he should stick to music games.

    Viva Pinata and something.

cj iwakura, N3 is nowhere near as bad as the reviews say. If you're a fan of beat em ups or of the levels in Otogi 1/2 where you fight a shitload of enemies it's great.

Does anyone recommend that King Kong movie game for 360? I heard it is a well put together game, and it can be had for cheap.

It's a good game. The main problem with it is that it's short and doesn't have much replay value, so it's worth picking up on the cheap.

As you beat GOW and have no live I think the R6/Dead Rising combo is a great choice.

Also for comming out soon, I see no mention of GRAW2 and Forza 2, both bound to be must haves, and Armored Core 4 if your into that sort of thing.

Doesn't anyone rent games anymore? Dead Rising is a good rental, as is King Kong. Not worth buying because you beat them once and you never play them again. Saints Row is pretty much GTA4 in my eyes, with the absence of motorcycles. It's actually a surprisingly good game considering I'm completely burned out on GTA. PGR3 is quite good as well and has quite a bit of single player longevity. Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter is very solid, as is Rainbow Six Las Vegas. Rainbow Six is even better online if you have a couple of skilled teammates. I guess since you don't have Live, you'd be better off renting it. Never got into Splinter Cell myself, but if you liked it's predecessors, I hear its good. I've yet to hear a bad word about Viva Pinata, but I haven't played it. It's reputation is excellent though. Burnout was crap. Wait for the next version to come out because that's supposed to be the next real sequel.

You guys are aware of that Microcenter offer of a 50 dollar gift card when you buy a Core or Premium, eh?

I think it expires [EDIT: Jan 14th according to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122982&highlight=microcenter ], actually.

Btw, this is a bit offtopic, but how loud is the Xbox 360 compared to a PS2? I'm trying to justify holding off an a 360 for now... until a new version comes out or a really good pricedrop/bundle... or something... oy.

What? Isn't the whole idea behind Dead Rising that you play it over and over again? I mean, you keep your levels when you restart, there are something like six endings, a whole lot of achievements to get and a few unlockables. Everything I've ever read about DR is that it's not a "beat it once and never again" game - hell, apparently the difficulty is so extreme that even beating it the first time around is nigh-impossible.

VEGAS it is. i was going to get dead rising but then the guy at eb jumped up and said SC double agent is on sale for 35 dollars for the week only. so i ended up getting that. i got a head start now due to the low costing game on my next game buy so either dead rising or saints row or something in 2-3 weeks.
