Very vague memory of a game I borrowed (swapped my Simon the Sorceror CD for it, actually) from a friend way back in the day. Gonna say 1993ish, give or take a year.

Game was set in space, and you piloted a spaceship. I remember being able to hail and talk to other ships in the area, hauling cargo on jobs, and one of the races of creatures you could hail to were kinda furry (in fact if I remember right, all the characters looked cartoony). At the end there was some kind of giant ring that was activated, might have turned out to be some sort of warp-gate or transportation device.

Anyway, this vague memory has been with me a LOT time so I'd appreciate it if anyone could figure it out :)

Was it a flight sim or some other style game?

Kinda conflicting memories there. I remember being able to take on cargo hauling jobs, but also remember flight-sim like fighting. Hope I'm not recalling a false memory. The ending that I mentioned, I seem to recall that activating it occurred in the middle of a big battle.

You know, it could be that one. Unfortunately none of the screen shots on Moby look strikingly familiar. Right time-frame though.

That would be my first guess too.

Sounds like Solar Winds except for the flight sim fighting part.

Definitely not Solar Winds as I remember that one quote well.

I'll have to see about getting a copy of Privateer to try out. Even if it's not the same one, it still looks pretty fun :)

If it feels dated or you can't get it to run, you can always check out the sequel. Starring Clive Owen and Mathilda May. Yes, I'm serious.

Oh man, Privateer was so awesome.

I used to play Slave Bowling.

Buy Slaves. Eject slaves into space.

Use your tractor beam to fling them into stuff.

Also, this is now a general Name That Game thread.
