We previously reported that Konami had cancelled a number of Wii and PS3 titles. However, today Konami went on record to deny these cancellations, saying the printed release listings in Japanese magazines, Famitsu and Dengeki, are actually errors and the games are still going ahead as planned. None of the games currently have release dates, however.
Since the mistake happened in two magazines, we can only presume that someone at Konami provided the wrong information to the publishers. It should be noted that this does not apply to Coded Arms Assault, however, which was officially cancelled last week. We're just relieved that a new Gradius is still in the works.
Does the cost of development and the low installed base of the PS3 (for now anyway) make developing a SHMUP viable for the platform? It's rather a niche market.
The Gradius game was put on indefinite hold long long ago, so I doubt we'll be seeing it anytime soon. If you're looking for a treasure shmup then look towards the 360.
Nice to see that the game journalism industry is still blaming their inability to do anything more than regurgitate press releases on everyone but themselves.
Did 1UP even try to contact Konami before they went to press? How utterly embarrassing.

What 360 shmup? And damn konami for not making a gradius for the Wii. That might be fucking awesome with the wiimote.

There's a "Radiant Silvergun 3" in development for the 360.
It probably won't actually be called that when it comes out, though. ("Radiant Silvergun 2" is Ikaruga.)

1UP: So would you consider it a new game in Radiant Silvergun "series"? Even though Ikaruga wasn't technically a sequel to Radiant Silvergun, it was the spiritual successor.
MM: I would say no, actually. I know what you mean about Ikaruga being a spiritual successor and I would have to say that this game is totally different.
And, really, Ikaruga isn't Radiant Silvergun 2. They're almost nothing alike, aside from both being shmups. It was an internal development name (RS2) that caught on with fans.

PS3
For now
Now... the task of making sure that some Sony executive doesn't open their damn mouths and turn this into something stupid...
I guess the next important questions are:
Is Treasure developing it?

Didn't SCEA give them shit about putting it even on the PS2?
SCEA haet 2D.

Treasure already talked about it.

And didn't NIS say in an interview that the whole 'SCEA hates 2D' thing is bullshit?
