Coming home today to the last 2 issues of Phonograms, the middle two issues of The Unknown: Devil Made Flesh, and the Powers Definitive hardcovers from the Amazon glitch.

Not much going on for me this week, but I did pull a little gem out of the bargain bin (for $2 a book, it's hard to go wrong).

The Silencers - Black Kiss

spoilers for big images (and spoilers)

The Silencers are super-powered mob enforcers, operating just under the radar of the big name super heroes.



They're backstabbed by their boss, who schemes to make a fortune off a new drug called Black Kiss, and who decides to replace the Silencers with an army of immortal, regenerating, metal-lyric chanting crab people.



The Silencers plan to get major payback, and part of that plan involves breaking into a very justice-y hall to use a certain caped fellow's super computer.



Also, the hall had a trophy room with a freeze gun in it.


Eventually, they uncover the horrible secret behind the Black Kiss drug...

And there's lots more stuff that happens too. It was a pretty great read.

Agreed, and that was very out of character for Parker (even whiney Parker) if I may say.

Ragdoll going in for the attack and taking out a fair number of the cultists

Also, the final issue of S.W.O.R.D. was pretty good, and had some enjoyable lines

Brand and Beast rush to Lockheed's rescue only to find Lockheed standing over a room full of defeated aliens splinting his arm.
Beast: You have changed, my friend. You know that?
Lockheed: <alien speak>
Beast: What did he say?
Brand: It's untranslatable. And physically impossible for humans.

I'm not saying Peter shouldn't have been punished. I'm just tweaked that Jonah didn't confront him first a little less publicly about it. Even laying into Peter in front of the entire City Hall staff would have been more preferable then blindsiding him like he did.

Never heard of that Silencers book, but those scans are good and I like the premise - I'm going to track that down.

As far as the Spider-Man thing goes - how does the team of Waid, Kelly, Gale, Van Lente, and Guggenheim think this is the direction a Spider-Man book should be going? That's a pretty talented and experienced stable of writers - shouldn't somebody say "Guys... WTF?" at this point.

I think Ultimate Spider-Man is my entire moment of the week.

Nothing mindblowing, but it's just an enjoyable, fun book. Really digging the interaction between Storm, Peter, and Bobby.

He's got a point about it being a Hulk one shot so Hulk really should win, and that in a Thor one shot Thor would win. However I do think it rather silly that Hulk can just grab Mjolnir out of Thor's hand and smack upside the head with it.

He doesn't grab it out of Thor's hand, he grabs Thor's hand with Mjolnir in it. It really is like forcing someone to smack themselves while shouting "STOP HITTING YOURSELF!"
