PS3 busted, exploring options

So back on Feb 25th, I bit the bullet and paid Sony $150 to have them repair my original 60gb PS3. I just got it back yesterday. To my unending delight (extremem sarcasm warning) I hook up the repaired unit, pop in my brand new FF XIII disc, and hear a lot of crunching noises.

So apparently the dipwad at the repair center replaced the disc drive, yet never bothered to pop a disc in to see if it was working. Being a civil person, I called up the Sony service line, wait about 15 minutes, and then proceed to tell the person on the other end of the line what happened.

My only option from them? You guessed it. Send it back in for repair again, and they will do this second repair for free. Oh joy of joys. After an hour on the phone, going through 4 different people, I finally talked to a woman who didn't sound like a robot, and she upgraded my shipping on this repair to overnight for free.

At this point, I'm in a quandry. I don't want to wait until sometime next week to get my system back, but can't think of any other options. I could go buy a slim, but then I'm putting money back into the pockets of these people. Can anyone offer an idea that convinces them to refund my money I paid for the repair or something like that? Anyone with some inside information on the words I should use to make that happen?

And yes, this thread is like 80% rant. Sorry about that, but I am a bit peeved.

I'd just point out that you paid $150 for a "repair" that essentially broke your system further. Not only that, but it damaged (I imagine if it was making crunchy noises) a brand new $60 disc. You'll have to get all the way up that 4th tier supervisor again though, I'm sure.

They're probably entitled to an opportunity to make good on the services you paid for. They're a business so I doubt they're going to want to give you a refund if they can fix your PS3.

Also, they'll probably want to verify that it's actually broken and you're night trying to get your money back after they already fixed it.

Maybe if you get a sympathetic customer service rep and explain your frustration and that you thought you'd have it working by now, but I have a feeling you're SOL.

Bout what I thought. I can't think of anything. At their mercy. Hopefully the guy who fixes it this time tries to put in a disc and make sure it works before sending it to me.

You could try sending it to a non-sony repair shop, especially since it's probably not in warranty.

Know anyone you could borrow a PS3 from for a week? Then just pray that your save game is transferable.
