Help me pick a Wii game :)

Hello there.

I'll be getting a Wii very soon, as well as Twilight Princess. I would like to get another game but the launch titles aren't very familiar. As an example, I've never played a rayman or monkeyball game and so far the reviews for games that I was interested in (such as red steel) have been absolutely horrible.

So, if you guys had some input, I'd appreciate it. Wii sports + Zelda are what I'm looking forwards to the most but I'll be splurging for another game and figured you guys might have some ideas. I'm not big into non-hockey sports games (so NFL isnt a big winner with me) but I enjoy just about anything else.

Raving Rabbids should do it, though that's all i'd recommend. I bought Exite Truck, and while it's fun, it's not fifty dollars fun.

I suggest you wait for more robust games that go past the tech demo stage, cause that's pretty much all that's out there for the system.

I got the new Monkeyball (along with Zelda, obviously :P) and it's really great when friends are over. Single player is still fun, but the multiplayer minigames are a blast.

I've also heard exteremely good things about the new Rayman; I'm looking to get it next time I have extra cash lying around. The controls apparently work extremely well for it.

Trauma Center: SO. Even if you've played the DS game -- the controls add a lot to it, and it's a whole lot of fun. The difficulty levels help a lot, as you can make it more or less challenging depending on how good you are. I got it along with Zelda at launch and loved every minute of it. Elebits was cute and fun, but unfortunately it didn't hold my attention for too long.

I was seriously considering all three of those.

Monkeyball - Heard great things, not a lot of info though.
Raving Rabbids - Even less of an idea but those damn bunnies are awesome
Trauma Center - Just looked neat.

Anyone care to give a run-down of what they're like from a non-salesman approach (e.g. how much real fun are they not what kind of gimmick can you sell it on)

    *edit*

Btw, thanks for actually taking the time to read this and post suggestions.

I bought Raving Rabbids when I picked up my Wii. It's ok.

The minigames are pretty varied in terms of enjoyment. I also find some of them quite awkward to play, not to mention tiring in a few cases. The on-rails shooter sections are a real highlight though, and are by far the best parts of the game.

I'm not sure it's worth paying full price to be honest. Where do you stay? Wario Ware: Smooth Moves came out today in Europe. Not sure when it's released in the US, but I would assume it's soon so you could maybe stick with Twilight Princess until it's released.

I rented Raving Rabidds and it's good if you like to play mini-games by yourself.

If you have friends or siblings to play with. Go for it.

I have heard good things of Elebits too

I found Trauma Center to be a *lot* of fun. Just know going in that it's not a serious medical game. You'll be dealing with anime-ish characters and "futuristic" medical techniques. So if what you're looking for is a real life surgery sim...this isn't it. That said, if those two things ARE what you're looking for, the game definitely delivers. The surgeries are difficult and varying enough that you do get a sense of accomplishment when you beat them, and you have fun while doing it. Obviously, it has no multiplayer component (unless you want someone to hold the nunchuck and play "nurse" ;)). Also, it's not a game that will demand a ton of your time every time you play. You can do it in short spurts for the most part.

Elebits is pretty awesome. I've been playing it off and on for the last couple of weeks, and I have a blast with it. If you haven't heard much about it, it's basically... hmm, how do I say this... it's like the love-child between Half-Life 2 and Katamari Damacy. Basically, there are these little creatures hiding everywhere that help improve electrical power, and your goal in the game is to use a gravity gun of sorts to collect them and increase the wattage in different levels. You do this by using your gravity gun to move things in the world, like toasters, books, shelves, etc and finding them. As you get more Elebits, your gravity gun gets stronger and you can move larger and larger things (thus the reference to KD). Eventually you are picking up cars and bulldozers and entire houses. Once you clear enough Elebits, you clear the level.

It's almost like a puzzle game as well as an action game, and is very addictive. What's great is that, after you finish a level, you can edit it and make your own levels and stuff. Also, the multiplayer is fun and hectic, so that extends the replayability. Definitely look into it at least.

Which of the minigames are your favorites? I have this game, and my wife and I played half a dozen of them, and none of them were great. Monkey Target was heavily dumbed down compared to the original Monkey Ball (which I own), Monkey Bowling sucked compared to the Wii Sports version, Whack-a-Monkey was crappy... Haven't really played it much since (aside from the single player, which I like), because Wii Sports is so awesome.

Bonus points if you name ones that don't require the Nunchuk, because I haven't found a second one yet.

Trauma Center:SO is my fav to pick up and play when i have a few spare minutes. Although the first time i did play it i played for quite a while.

Zelda is awesome because well... im a zelda fan and thats how i roll. But yea i think zelda is a sweet game to spend lots of time on.

Raving Rabbids is alright, but i wish there were more mini games where everyone could play at the same time

I'm one to recommend Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, even if you aren't a Dragonball fan. The game is a killer, and definitely one of the better titles that came out on the system so far. The controls on it, when you get used to them, are really great too.

Just for future reference, if you're expecting Ocarina 2.0 you're going to be seriously dissapointed. Hell, if you just want an original Zelda title in general you might be a bit peeved, as it suffers from an identity crisis. Not only that, but it just doesn't have that Zelda "feel" to it.

It's a good game, but lacking that extra oomph that's present in every other title of the series.

Just an opinion, so take it as you will.

Wow, I disagree with all of that. Easily the best zelda since Ocarina. I'd even place it above Ocarina, the plot and dungeons are way better.

Of the games I have bought (Zelda, Excite Truck, Monkey Ball) I would only consider Zelda a definate buy. Excite Truck is fun (if you have a SD card, custom soundtracks add a lot to the game), but its not good enough for me to recommend. Same with Monkeyball, it's fun, but maybe not worth buying.

WarioWare comes out next week, that looks good.

Honestly, I'd wait if I were you. Play Wii Sports and Zelda. Rent some of the other games and see if you can find another one worth buying.

Rayman is really good. A few of the mini games kind of blow, most of them are cool, several are awesome. The whole game has a delightful humor to it. It doesn't really matter if you haven't played a Rayman game before; the game is a departure from the series in nearly every sense of the word.

My wife just got me Trauma Center for my birthday. We rented Rayman the other weekend and while it was good the games got fairly repetitive after a while. There are about 8 different minigames that you play and they just have you play different variations of those games. It's still fun but so far I am having much more fun with Trauma Center. Both games make excellent use of the Wii capabilities, I personally would suggest Trauma Center due to its varying levels of difficulty and the overall level of fun I had playing.

Honestly, and I know it's not out for a while, but I'd wait for Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Otherwise, you could just put that money toward Wii points. Toejam and Earl, Super Castlevania IV, Comix Zone, and Gunstar Heroes are all completely worth your time.

I wouldn't really recommend rayman unless you have friends to play it with. The singel player gets boring relatively quick.

I love DBZ. Like someone else said, the controls are hard to master, but once it "clicks" it feels SOOO much better than a gamepad. I love it.

Elebits sounds pretty cool, I'm tempted to get that.

Well, the advice has defenatly been of help. I don't generally have too many friends coming over (As I just moved pretty far away from them).

I'm starting to think that Trauma Center is the best choice. Either that or just a virtual shitton of virtual console games. As I like what I've been reading about that.

Or maybe, I'll just stick with Zelda until more compelling titles are released.. I just have the itch to buy more games lol.

Red Steel is meh. I played it a day or two and haven't touched it since. It makes my head hurt.

Madden is fun if you're into football.

Zelda is fun, too, if you like single player stuff. I'm not really into single player cuz you just get lonely and bored. I play like 1-2 hours at a time cuz I get bored. I just don't like how there's only one way to do things, thus just playin off a walkthrough.

I can honestly say, I've had the most fun playing Wii Sports, just because I played it when people came over. It gets pretty crazy, haha.

It's really a game you have to play first hand to really get. I would suggest renting it later this week to see if it is up your alley. Basically though it is a multiplayer mini-game like game. Would be good for groups of people playing such as with Wii Sports. Not so good if you'd be playing by yourself, like with Zelda.

That's true, although for me in the past I have just always found myself playing with at least one other person. Maybe thats just my play style though. I guess the point is that it's not a single player game in the same way Zelda or Metroid is. Maybe more like Parappa the Rapper.

Wario Ware Smooth Moves will be the first wii game I pick up other then Zelda, which BTW I felt was kinda lame. Is it a good game? yes. Is it really any better then the gamecube version? not really. They really needed to put more effort into the wiimote controls. If I swing left to right the character damn well better swing left ot right also! Thats the whole point of the damn wiimote!
