Help me become a U.S Citizen

So I think it's about time I became a citizen of the U.S. Only thing is I have no idea how to go about it, so I'm hoping someone here has gone through the process.

General facts:

26 Years old
Born in Mexico
Mom is American born, father from Mexico.
Wasn't registered in the U.S Embassy (Don't know why)
Have been a U.S Resident for about 15 years
Graduated college here, have an apartment, a job etc. Basically a productive member of society.

So should I try doing this by myself? Hire an immigration attorney? What am I looking at time wise and money?

You most likely qualify for citizenship through your parents just because of the length you've been here and because your mother is a US citizen (I hope?).

Talk with an attorney. There are so many little details and things to pay attention to... It's well worth even the cost of the consultation just to get you set on the right track.

If you're in or near Washington DC, stay the fuck away from Kenneth Rinzler, he's a dick. Other than that, I don't know enough about immigration law to help you any further :)

I wouldn't hire an attorney, you can do it all yourself if you read through the uscis website to check your facts and paperwork. for a more general idea of what to do, timelines, costs and the order of things also read various forums.

Most immigration attorneys are there for more difficult cases, for example asylum or seeking residency/citizenship after being arrested for various things, etc. Lawyers will happily charge you money and you'll still end up filling out all the paperwork yourself essentially. You may be able to find some immigration attorneys who will give you some general advice for free though, especially if you start asking around and find one you know through family or friends.

If your mom has her citizenship and was over 16 this should be simple paperwork.
