Pax East Pump Up Routines? (TAKE 2)

My bad... I was unaware that link to my PAX related blog would fall under outside sources... but the main idea here was to know what other people were up to get themselves pumped:

I made an unboxing video, and I'll be doing a daily blog researching some of the panels, people, bands, companies that I'm not too familiar with to get pumped.

Basically I’m going to be looking into the panels, people, companies, bands that interest me and share my findings each day. In this way not only I, but also you, will get pumped for PAX (as if we weren’t already).

Is anyone else doing anything special to get pumped up for PAX? Omegathon training regimes? Re-reading the entire Penny-Arcade run so that you can ask obscure questions to Gabe and Tycho? Buying comfortable walking shoes? Unearthing your Game Boy Color in the hope that somehow you’ll find someone to get that final trade for Pokémon Cystal? I’ve seen some people are planning and making costumes, which is cool, but not my thing (and it also has its own thread).

If we all work together, we can help whip each other into a frothy mouthed frenzy of anticipation.

(I hope this fits forum standards!)

It was heavily inspired by the strip... and the overall fetishism behind unboxing videos in general...

Man, just read up on Wil Wheaton's career... super psyched for the keynote.

For those of you who haven't seen the PAX 07 keynote... its here:

If it doesn't make you want to attend his speech on Friday... I don't know what will...

Just listened to a bunch of Anamanaguchi and The Protomen! The plan is to listen to PAX Concert music the whole roadtrip down. Hopefully these guys have some purchasables at the show, since they deserve some of my cash.

The bands will indeed have purchasables! We have a little area known as Bandland directly outside of the Main Theatre.

    Nice unboxing vid.

    Thanks about the vid too!

I listen to this on repeat while running on my treadmill to grind my pokewalker, or I listen to either Protomen album, because they are so good.

Any other bands playing that you're digging? I'm pretty familiar with Frontalot & Coulton... and gave Protomen and Anamanaguchi a good listen a few days back... next week Metroid Metal and Video Game Orchestra are going to find a place in my MP3 player... anyone listened to Paul and Storm? I know nothing about them.

And re: Mega64... like I mentioned... they just need to tweak their formula a little bit and I'd probably become a regular viewer.

Paul and Storm are very funny live and often play with Coulton. They are probably one of the most entertaining acts around, especially if you've never seen them before.

I'll try to check out Paul and Storm this weekend.

I'm buying comfortable shoes. Well I already have comfortable shoes, sorta... not so comfortable now, so time for a replacement. I also want boots... but then I always want boots and can never find a pair to satisfy my needs.

It's pretty much necessary to hear Paul and Storm live though. I dunno, it just doesn't work via a recording. Since a lot of their humor is with interaction with audience, especially in songs like The Captain's Wife's Lament.

Me too! I bought a pair of Vans style slip ons.

PRO TIP: Vans style slip ons are like slippers you're allowed to wear in public! I had a pair at FanExpo last year at it was amazing...also, if your feet don't smell, you can just slip them off when you're sitting on the floor for added comfort (again... that's a big if).

As they say in Montreal (if you're french) 4 more dodos! ("Dodo" is a slang for french kid that means sleep, not just an extinct useless bird). New shoes, new bag, new dice... everything is coming together nicely.

I could be misunderstanding you, but 'Get Lamp' is screening on Friday night, not Saturday. It's listed as 9:30 - 12:00 in Naga on the schedule...

FACT.... I messed up the dates. Substitute Friday for Saturday in that sentence.

"If I can't get into the concert, I'll be watching Get Lamp" otherwise... I may pick up the DVD when it becomes available because Jason Scott is basically thegeek-historian of the BBS era.

I am stumped about what to read up on today while I get pumped (rhyming!). I really wanted to download some of the indie games from the featured indie devs that will be there and play a few over the weekend... but alas... I failed at that. Maybe reading up on the D&D movie? Anyone know anything about it?

No time to read up on PAX specific stuff today! Spending most of the day google mapping my way around Boston to places of interest, selecting my geekiest/coolest t-shirts (harder than it looks, Wil Wheaton is totally on point but you know, on a grander scale)... I currently have narrowed my shirt list to five, in no particular order:

"little" mario facing off against bowser in level 8-4 screenshot shirt
white and red ringer t with NO! written on it in capital letters
    faded look OOT Triforce shirt
vampire teeth shirt (Twilight hasn't ruined vampires for me yet)
optimus prime says stay in school shirt

I think I have finished belt buckle selecting (because you know, everyone will see my belt buckle):

    PacMan Ghost
    OOT Style Triforce
    My usual RockStar buckle.

I'm bringing a big stack of my wristbands I think too... too many to list in my collection (more like "cool-ection... am I right?)

    Man.. packing is hard.

Anyone else have special shirts or gear they're going to be sporting?

A friend of mine is gonne be wearing a sweet shirt that just says "Gamer" in the Sega font... another one has a "Rock is Dead, Long Live Paper and Scissors" shirt that gets a chuckle from the LARPing crowd...

EDIT: Also getting my twitter feeds in order for mobile updates! Very important stuff here.
