Are they real or just invented by the liberals to make me spend extra money on libraries.

This is a good idea. If this Texas shit gets out of hand, any kids of mine aren't going to school so what else are they going to do for 6 hours?

So, is Gabe using the pokéwalker as a way to be lazy when letting his kid get some exercise, or is he using his kid as a point farmer for the game on the device? I'm assuming the latter.

Edit: Because I actually googled the thing and apparently it's a pedometer with a pokemon game built in and you gain some sort of currency by walking with the thing

Yep, and I consider it a brilliant way to get fat kids to either exercise or jack off more. Either way they are moving.

After researching what it is it looks like he is just point farming him.

Really the smart thing to do would be to attach it to the wheel of a car and drive around a bit.

I wonder if that would actually work.

I think the pokewalker is a pedometer that levels up your pokemons when you walk around

at least that's what I guessed from reading the comic

    So what is a pokewalker?

it's a little thing that comes with the new pokemon game
you put pokemon from the cart into it, walk around, collect points and capture pokemon / get items on it

you get 1 point every 20 steps

it's a good way to make kids walk around

Yeh, that's what I figured. It also makes it funnier that way.

And I assume that would work, pedometers don't usually need a whole lot of motion to count a step

I made Vivienne farm for minerals for me yesterday in Mass Effect 2.

I can see Gabe's view in this.

look I know moving things are difficult to understand for you lot, but wheels go in a circle. The force is always directed in the same direction with regard to something stuck on the edge of the wheel, which would be completely different to the forces it would experience when you're walking.
It would only do anything from the car bouncing up and down, like if you've got shit shock absorbers or something.

I like the comic even more now that I get the point farming angle. At first I thought the joke was just Gabe getting his kid to run around.

This is why I wasn't sure it would work!

I am unsure if the pedometer measures change in acceleration or just acceleration. Cause if you just leave it on a wheel it will get constant acceleration.

They had a Pikachu one about 10 years ago? I took it to see how many steps I would take while I was on patrol
I never paid attention to it other than the number. It was happy all the time in spite of that

So is the alternative to the whole fitness angle just eating a bunch of Rare Candy?

well the thing is, you can only level your pokemon one level in the pokewalker per time you put it in there. however, you can use it to catch dudes that arent in the main game, so

    also get rad items

    Good on Nintendo then

Between this and Wii Fit it's nice to see them try to do something to promote fitness

Also after finding out what the Pokewalker is, this is a great comic

I suppose it depends on the specific mechanism, apparently modern ones use MEMS which are the things on the left here

    Sandia_MEMS_bug_1b.jpg

old ones used pendulums but I don't think any of them would work well with a wheel

I suppose I could go to the garage and stick one of the ones sitting beside me on the back wheel of my old bike and test it, but it's raining and I would have to go outside

I like my pokewalker quite a bit actually.

I attached it to my front pocket, walked around the niehgborhood, caught a pidgey, then found some potions and stuff. Kept walking, and actually wound up coming home with 3 new pokes and 3 fairly expensive items. I dunno if people will actually go out and walk 8,000 steps a day like I did, but just having it sit on your hip and go about your day is a nice way to get rewarded in pokemans.

I know a young kid - he's a neighbor and I have looked after him from time to time and he is a pretty sweet kid

Problem is he likes to skimp on his homework

He is HUGE into pokemon and has this game and the pedometer

So I struck a deal with him

He keeps his parents informed of all the homework he has - I agree to keep the pedometer on me during the week

(I run 10k every other day)

They joy on his face was ridiculous

So far this plan seems to be working quite well
