I don't want to hear none of your guff, I got my best time in Hell with a keyboard. Yeah that's right and it weren't no WASD shit either. See those arrows on the right of your keyboard? Not the ones on the number pad, to the left of that. I used those. Was I stupid? Yes. Should I have just sprung for a USB connector to use my PS2 controller? Yes. Did I get King on my title screen? You better believe it. So don't tell me the wiimote is bad until you move around with 3 fingers in Hell.
What makes the wiimote so bad though? I use it for NSMB Wii and it works fine for that. It just hurts my fingers after a while because I'm a freak and my fingers are really long and scary.
The problem is mostly that weapon switching is done with the awkwardly placed A and B buttons. I often find myself accidentally hitting B during intense sequences, with disastrous results, and if I want to cycle forward I have to take my thumb off the d-pad to hit A, which is never a good idea when it actually matters.
That does sound pretty bad actually. I'd call A a lost cause for me, there's no way I'd be able to hit it and take less time than it would if I had just hit B 4 times.

I have a Classic Controller, which I use for a variety of games. Every Wii owner should have one.
I was gonna push through the remixes to see the efforts, but knowing that the new tracks are actually broken, I switch to Old School, and to my delight, the old songs has some phat bass coming out of my big speakers

Listen to the title theme that plays when you pick the game on the wii screen but before you load it.
I beleive thats what its supposed to sound like.
Having just had a long session I can easilly tell what they mean about instruments not changing. Like at all. It almost sounds like someone loaded the wrong set of midi instruments and every song is being dumbed down to like 4 crappy square waves.
You can check songs like (sadly) the main theme, the cave theme etc and hear where you know the melody should go from one instrument to another and just doesnt. Also that game select on the wii menu screens theme has drums, and it made a world of difference.
I daresay this music might actually be pretty good. I hope we get to actually hear it soon.
That being said I think even in raped mode Running Hell's remix sounds pretty good. But fuuuuuuck I am getting served there. Totally find not a single boss in the game challenging but I suck at hoverjump controls
This seems like a pretty big fuckup especially for such an anticipated indie title going up against the big boys. I find it hard to believe that even though the creator didn't have as much to do with bringing to consoles, that he has no fault in it.
How does something like that get by quality control!? Nobody played the game before releasing it online?
It's all still pretty minor to me, as I wasn't on the bandwagon on the PC so it's mostly all new to me. But still, I am just bewildered as to how this could happen, to a often delayed game no less.

It makes me wonder if they realized people were getting anxious that it was taking them so long and they decided they had to push it out, flaws and all. Or, they ran out of money on operating costs, with no real capital in all the time it took them, and had to push it out quickly for that reason. This would also explain why they "built in" some of the DLC they had planned, now everyone has to pay that extra $2 rather than it being optional.
I'm on my first non-Spur play, and holy crap is that weapon the easy mode. Navigating Hell with a machine gun and missile launcher you're desperately trying to level up and a Nemesis you're desperately trying not to level up is chaos.

All right, after hearing all the details and complaints, I'm going to update the OP with everything people have pointed out so far for everybody who's on the fence about picking it up. If I forget anything, let me know.

I need to try a Spur run one of these days. Every single time I play the game, I go with the Snake. It's my favorite weapon in the game, but I never see it get any love.
I they address these issues because I want to recommend it to my friends, but I just feel weird saying it's an awesome game, the music is just fucked up and you have to turn the SFX down to 75 percent!
Second playthrough on PC version going for the best ending.
-I hate the booster v2.0 and I hate Final cave hard- Im sure ill hate hell as well if I ever make it

You're probably going to be like me and die in the first room of Hell more often than anything there barring the true final boss himself.

This game doesn't really support widescreen, does it? As I was playing last night I realized that everything looked more stretched than I remembered on the PC.

EXCEPT.
If you press select to look at the nearly-useless map, the right edge of the map will stretch all the way to the right side of the TV.

Correct, it actually both stretches and crops. It's a double whammy of bad testing.

Oh god I noticed that crazy map problem too. I thought it was normal until I saw it happen in two separate areas.
Word on the official forums is that the map is buggy, particularly when on the outer wall area. If you look at the map there, your game will probably freeze when you go through a door.

I love the snake. IMO sans needing leveling its the best weapon by far. Decent damage, killer range, says F U to walls. You can do a lot of nice stuff in the third room of hell with it. Its always felt extremely powerful to me.
Also it destroys the first core fight. The range the core sits at is just in range of snake, so you dont need to move. Just unload on him without worry.
Can anybody help me with this sand palace part? I know I've got to bring these dogs one by one to this house, but I've already got one on my head, and nothing happens when I bring it there...

In case you're bringing them to the wrong house, the place you need to take them is the house with the old lady in it (Jenka). You talk to her to hand the dog over to her.

Oh god, THANK YOU! I was going nuts with that. Eventually I "solved" it by switching to original graphics (where the map sucks less, even ignoring the bugs,) but this is much better.

Oh God. I know I hate when people did this for their P4 Run, but they are SO BAD at this game. They get lost for 15 minutes in the village, completely skip a health powerup in the corridor, and don't even figure out they can fire up or down until midway through that corridor.

Just slightly off-topic, but how does the update process work on Wii (once they have an update, of course)? I've never had a need to upgrade a game like this.

You go to the WiiShop channel and download the update from there, I believe. Hopefully they will update it, because I'd like to hear the redone music as intended.

So do I just need to keep my ear firmly pressed against the ground in case an update is headed my way, or does a message pop up if I start the game whilst connected to the internet saying, "Hey, update your game, guy" a la Xbox 360?

I too want to hear what the masterminds wanted us to hear.
I feel bad for them. I can picture them watching the Let's Play and going "What the fuck have they done to us?!"
There used to be some mp3s on the official site but now playthroughs are popping up on youtube.

Egg Corridor is actually better than the preview mp3s, where the beepy bit in the background was ear piercingly grating.
EDIT: Uuughhh, listen to the music at 6:43.

Wasn't the fault of the composer/remixer. Sadly.
But anyways, if I play with the the old music, is that the least audio glitchy way to go, or does it not matter?

Yeah, playing with the old music is pretty much the way to go. It sounds leagues better.
Also, turn down the sound effects to about 1/3rd their default setting. They're way too loud.

The locked building is your objective, but you never do get a key, so don't worry. Keep bringing dogs to Jenka and eventually you'll understand.
