I think I might have finished TV for good, I just finished watching The Sopranos. Is there any other series that even comes close to the perfection that is The Sopranos? I have already seen The Wire (awesome, but a little too gritty) and BSG (good but OTT corny) is there really anything else to look into as far as dramas go?
I really liked the first few seasons of 24. Well, I liked all of them so far, but only the first few were really, really good, then it gets a bit predictable.
Six feet under is some goddamn impressive storytelling. The finale makes my wife cry like a baby and me... god, there must be some dust in my eye or something.
Well - personal opinion here - Dead Like Me was pretty damn good I thought. Psych has been a great show as well. Two days ago I just started watching Weeds, and so far I am impressed.
If you want to include comedies, then I'll throw in The Office (BBC) and I'm Alan Partridge + Knowing Me, Knowing You for reference and I guess The Day Today because it's far and away the best news parody show of all time, ever, period, and also was the genesis of Alan Partridge.
Awesome, my library has Mad Men but it didn't have Dexter, Breaking Bad or Deadwood. Christina Hendricks is in this show right? She is amazing, not her acting really, which is probably great...I meant her other features.
Also I use to be huge into Firefly and I recently rewatched it. It seriously has some of the worst fight scenes in any show, ever. See War Stories if you don't know what I mean.
And it's been over long enough that maybe we're at a point where people who get into it for the first time will accept that it's gone and never coming back, and all those online petitions and Facebook groups will fade into obscurity. It's already been said, but watch Firefly, and by all means enjoy it, but don't become one of those people who starts referring to himself as a "Browncoat" and using Firefly slang in real life.
I also highly recommend Caprica, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Dexter, and The Wire.
Also, you mentioned that you thought BSG was really cheesy. Are you referring to the one from the 1970s, or the new one? Because the new one is fantastic, and (in the first few seasons, at least) not very cheesy at all.
Another recommend for The Shield. A lot of similarities with the Sopranos, in that they dont have easily definable characters as good/bad.
Band of Brothers is awesome.
Deadwood is great (grrr only a few seasons).
Seasons 1 & 2 of 24 are great fun and extremely watchable.
The West Wing surprised me with its quality (Not being American).
Dead Like Me
Dexter (you'll never look at that guy in Six Feet Under the same way ever again)
Weeds (a drama but very funny)
Comedies:
Weeds (a comedy but very dramatic)
Mr. Show...with Bob & David (4 seasons of the best comedy since Monty Python...with links!)
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (has been getting some great DVD releases lately)

Breaking Bad
Despite recommendations, not enjoying Deadwood or Damages
Mad Men
Six Feet Under
Certain seasons of 24
Dexter
It is the best TV show.
No, seriously, why aren't you watching Breaking Bad right now. Holy shit it's the best show.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Dexter are amazing. Loses a bit of steam in 3 in my opinion but it's still a great show.
These and the first two seasons of Dexter are pretty much the best thing.
John Lithgow was awesome in the last season.
The first season of Rome was good. The second season went all wtf and got cancel 83% of the way through.
Creator Matthew Weiner even worked on The Sopranos!
Mad Men.
Anyone want to beta read a paranormal mystery novella? Here's your chance.
stream
Also Aaron Sorkin shows (Sports Night, West Wing) before they jump the shark* are good watching.

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
and throw in my vote for
Burn Notice
Rescue Me (especially season 1&2)
Homicide: Life on the Street
Hill Street Blues
haven't seen these two but they get a lot of praise:
Sons of Anarchy
Oz (the prison one, not the wizard of)
You're not watching Dexter right now are you
WATCH DEXTER
and
Sparticus, two great shows.
Also I use to be huge into Firefly and I recently rewatched it. It seriously has some of the worst fight scenes in any show, ever. See War Stories if you don't know what I mean.
The West Wing is really good but loses steam in the last coupla seasons.

Pretty much any HBO/Showtime series is worth a watch. For some reason when you have to pay for TV you get less crap. (and more boobies)
