foursquare swarm badge at Hynes?

benswimmingbenswimming PennsylvaniaRegistered User regular
edited March 2010 in PAX Archive
Anyone out there use foursquare on their smartphone? The Swarm badge is a rare badge with the app, where 50+ people need to be checked into the same venue at the same time. I would love to get this badge at PAX and will def be checking into the convention everyday I am there. Anyone else interested in trying to get this badge at PAX EAST?

edit:

I just created a PAX EAST entry on foursquare. Hopefully with one already created people won't be trying to make it again and we end up with 30 different PAx entries.

I bet one of the Penny Arcade employees (or enforcers) will have a PAX East place all ready for people to check into.

Well there should already be an entry for Hynes, so I am hoing people dont make 20 different entries for PAX. There should be just one check-in, be it Hynes or PAX East.

I actually just registered with Foursquare about a week or two ago, but I never remember to check in at places. I'll have to make sure I do a quick check-in though if there is a tough badge to get. I noticed all of my other friends got the swarm badge at a Muse concert two weeks ago. Yet another reason I should have went to that show!

Oooh! Yeah a swarm badge sounds good!

I hope there's actually a PAX East entry over the Hynes convention center.

I can't see that here at work.
Did you add a description or hint that proclaims it as the Official PAX East location?

It might be more useful in general foursquare terms to have individual "venues" for the different theaters or areas. If I'm trying to find out which panels or events my friends are at, just seeing that they're at "PAX EAST" is not helpful.

Feel free to add venues to foursquare, I wasn't going to get the granular, but you can add the individual theaters. I'm just going to set it once, and then enjoy the convention.

I'm not 100% knowledgeable as to how foursquare works, but judging by the fact there have been 4 check-ins by 2 unique visitors at the Hynes so far, I'd say someone is already well on their way to becoming Mayor of PAX East.

Let you know via PM for what? The location is set up on foursquare already. Just check-into the PAX East foursquare location at the convention center. The check-ins dont need to be at the exact same minute, I think its like 50 checkins in a 30 minute timeframe. I think this may just happen naturally at PAX, or so I hope.

Would it be wise to make QR or Microsoft Tag for it and maybe get in touch with someone on the organization group about putting up a sign or some such thing?

If you know someone sure, I am not sure what we could do this late into the start of the event.

How about everyone just check in right as the doors open each day? We're bound to get the swarm badge then. That way we don't need signs or a way to coordinate things. We can spread the word in lines waiting to get in, on Twitter/Facebook/boards/etc.

I don't think you need to make an individual check in for each venue inside the convention center. I was just planning on doing individual shouts about what panel I'm at or if I see something cool at a booth.

I have the same amount of daily checkins as Dino, who's the current Mayor. How would I go about overthrowing him - do I just need to check in before he does tomorrow?

The mayor's whoever has the most checkin's. you could technically spam check in anywhere and become the mayor. Not sure when 2 people have the same amount though. I would assume it would then be who got that amount first, so in this case, Dino.

I think you have to be at least somewhere near where you're checking in. Doesn't it locate you by IP?

I'm actually sitting in the Hynes right now (the wireless is super awesome).
