I've decided to check out all the music that's been namedropped in the chat threads over the last few weeks.
Hot Chip's on the list, as is the Decemberists and, yes, even JT's new CD.
Anything else I should be especially aware of?
Dude, not the Decembrists. They just aight. I can load you up with gigs of hip music to impress the friends with. Just give me word and I'll be liek woah
I don't know what The Knife is, but a quick google says some kind of band?
I went to a show for a band called Knife Knife, and it made me want to murder, if that's any consolation. This is not a positive review, by the way, despite what the band names here might lead one to believe.
How could one hate CheerfulBear, anyway? I mean, he has cheerful right in his name.
Incessantly cheerful people kinda piss me off after a while.
Them, and morning people can fuck right off. I mean fuck, it's eight in the fucking morning, there is nothing good about that.
Fuck man, my last girlfriend was a morning person. It was some special fucking torture at times.
While I am not one, I do not have a problem with morning people, but that's probably because I've never been in a situation where a morning person would disrupt me.
Except Dad, who is getting us up at 7 tomorrow so we can move back to school.

Nah, it's this band that pitchfork splooges over and lots of my hipster associates were all ga-ga about. I resisted, but they kept getting so much fellatio I decided to check em. They did NOT meet expectations.

Come on then, drop some names on me. I'm going to actually make a list.

Poldy's list will most likely be hit and miss. For example, The Crane Wife by the Decemberists is awesome, don't listen to Poldy.
@ Poldy -- when more than like three people all of the same social circle all simultaneously tell me to check out a certain band, I'm often quite suspicious of a dangerous amount of group-think going on. It's not always bad, but it's generally a warning sign.
I had a camp counselor who was a morning person. I developed a special kind of loathing for him that I have yet to feel for anyone else.
The worst part is when they fail to grasp that they REALLY need to just fucking go for a walk or read the damn newspaper or yell at the TV or something, but whatever you do for chrissakes don't fucking direct your energy toward other people! OH GOD NO!
also @ bsjezz -- I know lots in this thread like Stereolab. If you haven't heard them, I'd recommend moving them up to #1 with five big stars next to it.

Oh okay. Thanks for them - my list is ballooning already, in fact it has probably already exceeded my means... but I'm sure I'll figure out something. I did take note of The Servant the first time you mentioned it, so ta. I'm not ingrateful, I swear!

I need sleep, not someone all in my face telling me it's time to get up and greet the new day. Why don't you greet my hand ripping your eyes from your head?

Cheefulbear, what is this 2001? We're hooking Jezz up with some HIP music.
First off, the essentials:
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
Wolf Parade
Islands/The Unicorns
Cloud Cult
Arcade Fire
Beirut
Probably heard of most of those, but you simply HAVE to get that shit.
Others to ponder:
Architecture in Helsinki
Bell Orchestre
Caribou
Death From Above 1979
Destroyer
Man Man
Swann Lake
Black Dice
The One AM Radio
Rock Plaza Central
Slowlands
Sister Suvi
Sunset Rubdown
Stereolab
Swords
Tokyo Police Club

I think I'd have to take the spartan route with a kid like that.
Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor.
I'm getting my dance creds up, but no one wants to mess with my rock skills.
What's wrong with lists geeze
The Decemberists
Minus the Bear
The Shins
Sigur Ros
Sneaker Pimps
Beulah
The Format
Devotchka
Cold War Kids
Kenna
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for.

If you're looking for a more specific type of music, it would be better.
At fundy camp?
