I have an original model DS, and shattered its top LCD (but not the transparent cover or casing, somehow) one day last year
Nintendo generously allowed me to "replace" it with a DS lite for $75 and keep the busted NDS for an extra $10.
So now I have a DSLite and a mostly-not-broken DS just sitting in its box, bugging me. It's definitely out of warranty, so I've become interested in attempting replacement of the top screen. A few things first:
Does anyone know of a reliable set of instructions? I've seen a few different sets and get the gist of it, but a set of instructions you've followed yourself and can vouch for would be pretty awesome.
Any suggestions as to where to buy a replacement screen? I see various no-name stores carrying them, and sets of top/bottom replacement screens from NA-based sellers with decent feedback scores on ebay, but ... well, that's ebay. You can imagine why I have reservations.
Lastly, does anyone have a better overall idea, such as a reputable repair outfit?
Thank you
