Stereo to mono audio in Windows Movie Maker

I'm trying to capture video with a webcam in windows movie maker, and I'm using an audio interface to record the sound (since I can plug my guitar right into it). The problem is, the audio interface has two input channels, and I'm only using one, so all the audio is in the left channel of a stereo track, and the right channel is silent. Is there any way in Windows Movie Maker to get rid of the empty channel? I can't seem to find one.

Thanks

I don't know enough about windows movie maker to offer any useful advice there, but I have had this issue before and used an adapter to fix the problem.

I'm not sure on the specific cable that you would need, but something like this would probably work:

    http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Live-Wire-TRSFDual-14M-Y-Cable?sku=331083

In my experience with other programs importing sound, you could apply an envelope to the track where you could force audio to the left/right/center.

I hope some of this is helpful to you. I'm sorry I can't give any specific advice.

That would definitely work, although I'm hoping I can still handle this through software.

I don't think there's any way to do that with this program, unfortunately. There seem to be no audio track options apart from changing the volume.

A Tascam US-122MK2. If there's a way to set the output on it to just one channel, they haven't made it obvious.

I just looked up the model on the tascam website (http://www.tascam.com/products/us-122mkII.html). I know nothing about it though so this is just a shot in the dark.

Does that mono switch allow you to output in mono or is that used for something else?

The mono switch just changes what you hear own the headphones, not what goes into the computer.
I managed to solve my problem, sort of, by recording the audio in Audacity at the same time I record the video in WMM. The only problem is syncing it up afterwards, but it's not too bad.

Damm, Took me 10 min to just get here and answer this question for you guys.

Here is what I think is the problem:

    PROBLEM:
You got a video (or even an Audio file): images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRTOoRHhBKBjbqVZGBV_apgvSAA2SZvfOPyCOS5pvhvaAad3s9uEA

that you want to edit(/ publish/ Listen to):THESE-HEADPHONES-COST-3-DOLLAS.jpg?imageSize=Medium&generatorName=Eins-Derp

But the Audio Is Monorail (When the file is stereo) 449669.jpg

To fix this crapathon, FO FWEE (like now and no bullshit latter) Here are the steps..

Get that file that has the problem on your desktop:Desktopawesome.jpg

Then after that Open the FILE that you want to "fix" the audio in order to make that mono video sound like it has 2 real stereo channels stereophonic_black.gif

With THIS program HERE and get the FREE version:box-audioextractorfree.png
    (LINK IS: http://www.aoamedia.com/audioextractor.htm )

Install the FREE version of this software
(And if you want try out the Shareware stuff iF you want, but it is not needed)

NOTE: You will have display issues if you ise Windows-7. Might also be in Vista so prepare to squint a bit if you have to save the files anywhere :-)

After you have installed the aoaAudioextractor, THEN Open up the file, and then check what format you wnat it in.

THEN CHECK THE MONO OPTION THAT IS LISTED BEFORE YOU LIKE DERP IT UP!
(If prior Military, Stomp on ground 3 times as this is important)

PRO TIP: Windows movie maker LIVE for some reason likes MP3 files better then WAV files so use acordingly

After the program outputs the AUDIO file from the VIDEO file, This is how you fix said Video file.

Open up that Fubar video file that has messed up audio in Windows LIVE MOVIE MAKER!

(It is free, Msoft ofers trials of windows-7 for like 6 months, get a beta, Gp to the pireate bay becase you are stupid and get a virise ridden spyware copy etc... that you Downloaded on the computer at the library and or your local College of choice)

Click on add audio at this point or just add audio
PRO-TIP: The Audio does not always sync with it at first. NO WORRYS! Just play around with it a bit and it will sync up. Somtimes it is off just enough to make an echo. Don't worry. Even if you can t get it to line up Here is how to fix that puppy

Now on the "PROJECT" menu in WMML (Windows Movie maker live) stroll over to the Audi Mix button (icon/control(er) And then use your Audio that you added.

NOTE: Even though the audio that you added is MONO. WMML will take that audio and mix it to both channels of the stereo mix.

PRO TIP: You can mix it up a bit to add some ambince and effeect to your audio as well.

    NOW

SAVE THAT file to your computer BEFORE YOU EDIT IT OR YOU WILL HAVE TIME AND SYNC ERRORS!

If you do this right... You will have fixed your problem and then you can edit your video and go on with your life.

NOTE: I Will never come back to this forum again, so you might want to get at me in other ways.

    Myspace.
    EMAIL
    ETc.

Have a good one. And will edit and fix if I have to might make a you tube video on how to do it.
