I had Ubuntu on my computer but decided that I'd rather have windows. I formatted the partition that Ubuntu was on, thinking that I could then start my computer with the windows disc in drive and install windows that way. It hasn't worked.
Whenever I turn my computer on (windows disc or no windows disc) all I get is a black screen and the words:
GRUB loading.
error: no such partition
grub rescue >
What do I do to get my computer working again with Windows as my OS?

Throw the Ubuntu disc back in there, and format the whole thing. There's a way you can just blow everything away, but ATM I don't have access and I can't recall how you do it.
That's the only thing I can think of.
Sounds like you probably need to go into your BIOS first of all and change the booting order of your devices so that the disc drive is attempted before the hard drive.
Despite you having a Windows disc in, the system is trying to boot from the hard drive first, so it starts with GRUB and is never falling through to the disc drive.
Once you do that, it should work just like you expect (Windows Setup starting and such).

This. I was having a very similar problem reinstalling windows and this fixed it.
