Multiplayer, Online, where you Battle in Arenas, but not a MOBA: Bloodline Champions

I was just wondering, is anyone here playing in the Bloodline Champions Closed Beta?

For those of you (all of you?) who never heard of the game, it is an arena battle game that at first sight seems like some sort of DotA variation, but is actually completely different. No creeps, no leveling, no equipment, no farming, no mana; in the most commonly played game mode, your team of up to five people fight against an equally sized team until all of the members of one of the team dies, with the surviving team winning the round. Matches are usually played first to four rounds.

Oh, and by the way, the game has no auto-targeting: you move with WASD, aim with your mouse. Even heals have to be targeted manually (though they are relatively easy to target because they "explode" when the projectile reaches the point you clicked, healing more the closer your allies are to center of the explosion). It's a great game with a 16 very varied characters (called bloodlines) with 7 skills each; may not look like much, but there is a lot of stuff to do with these skills.

Other cool stuff in the game include the fact that it has no inherently random elements at all: no criticals, no passive abilities with a chance to proc, no chance to hit (melee attacks affect a small fixed cone in front of your character), no random damage, etc. Also, you can hold down a button to use an ability as soon as it is available instead of keeping hammering the key; rounds have a time limit to avoid those huge, annoying matches; and it has a pretty unique art style, going for a type of tribal flavor instead of more traditional fantasy.

You can see the Bloodlines here (slightly outdated skills, though):

Check out some videos (that I found on youtube).

The game lets you choose multiples of the same bloodline in the same team:

This one is a different mode: Capture the Flag.

I got a Beta invitation a couple of weeks ago, and I'm absolutely loving it. I figured it needed more exposure.

Wow, absolutely no love for this - I just found out about this today and signed up for the beta.

    Super-sad I'm not in.

Found the game to be a lot of fun, but it's hard to stay interested only playing on weekends.

I will check my account to see if I have any friend invites left.

Edit: I have 2 invites that will go to the first 2 PMs.

Arise thread, arise. I just got an invite from one of the people who got invites. Does anyone have some spares so I can drag a friend or two with me? Anyone still playing?

Friend of mine is in this, says it's really fun. I dunno why it's compared to DoTA at all ever though, it's just a straight up arena shooter with a fantasy bent.

Oh nice! Someone actually brought the thread back. I thought no one was interested. :)

Anyway, I hadn't been playing lately thanks to a rather busy schedule on weekends [strike], but I still have an invite left, if anyone's interested[/strike].

I guess it's the perspective and the fact each character has multiple skills on a cooldown? Dunno. It really is a completely different game.

And yes, it really is an amazingly fun game.

    Edit: Invite sent.

It's still a champion based arena game, but I guess the comparison stops there. The fact that game rounds last about three minutes is one of the most drastic differences to me. That seems to appeal to a lot of the folks.

It's sort of like playing bite-sized DotA team fights without any of the leveling/item buying stuff and without all the stuns and instant kills. My chief complaint with playing the beta a little is that the game gives you zero time to get used to playing your hero, the first time in you won't even have time to read all your abilities.

Whoa, a game I've never heard of that sounds interesting. That hasn't happened in a while. Well, I guess technically it happens every time I hear about a new interesting game, but normally I hear about it earlier.

Well in any case I guess I will start keeping my eye on this.

This game is really fun. It does seem have some playerbase issues though. Either because of the testing time/lack of invites/whatever there are only about 250 people on now, mostly europeans. I can't do matchmaking until I hit rank 5, but I can only increase rank through custom games that are rank-locked because people hate having newbies on their team. If I try and host people leave right when they join because I'm rank 1.

I'll play with you when/if I get on this weekend.

Sheesh. Heck of a learning curve here. What's the best way to figure out my way around the game?

Play practice matches against hard or medium bots, at least until you can reliably hit with your attacks. Also a good way to figure out how to break tanks and healers which is super important.

Been playing this a little more lately. It is pretty damn fun. Balanced, competitive and very team oriented.

    Here are some videos

Important things to note from the video:

    Team based arena environment.
No levels or Random number generation, all skill based.
Each hero has 6 abilities and an ultimate.
Everything must be aimed, ranged abilities, melee attacks and even heals.
No mana. All champions have the same stats.
Three different architypes and various heroes underneath: Tank, Melee and Ranged.
Moves and controls with WASD and mouse.
Has stats, match making and grading system so good players can't stomp newer ones.
    Will be published by Failcom.
Several different games types, team deathmatch, control the points, and capture the flag.
LOS ability similar other RTS games. Hide behind an object, people can't see you and you can't see them.

I'm really enjoying this game, though I still have trouble hitting shit reliably. The intense 5-10 minute matches are great for quick study breaks.
