X-Box 360 disc read errors

MaximusMaximus Engineer of the HarbingerEngine RoomRegistered User regular
Alright, I haven't been able to play anything off disc on my 360 for a few days. When I load a disc, it doesn't recognize that there is a disc in there. It will read for several seconds before saying that there is nothing the drive is empty. Am I correct in assuming that the whatever reads the disc is broken, or could it be just dirty? What are my options in fixing it.

my xbox is doing the same, in the long run, your xbox is most likely fucked and needs to be sent in to microsoft, for a short term fix though, clearing your hard drive cache worked for me

This may only be a short term fix, but try switching your 360's position. If it's horizontal, stand it vertical or vice versa. I don't necessarily understand the science behind it, but this has literally worked for me with every disc based console I've owned.

Recently, my 360 had a disc read error, I turned reset the console, disc read error again. I then stood it vertically and it read the disc fine. At the start of my next session I put it horizontal again and it's been fine since. *fingers crossed*
