This is the motion graphics chapter of my reel. Whatcha think? Also, I'm not so vain that I love to see my name over and over, I just want employers to remember me!

I know threads with just links are illegal, but I don;t think I can embed vimeo here. If anyone knows different, please let me know!

(I'll preface this by saying I <3 After Effects but I'm still learning/teaching myself and I don't have a job with it yet)

I spy with my little eye some Video Copilot.

Actually, quite a bit of Video Copilot. Riot Gear, Evolution, the ball dispersion tutorial, and did you use SureTarget for that last bit? I may only be recognizing it because Video Copilot is what got me into AE in the first place. I would recommend trying to disguise the Ball dispersion tutorial a bit more, anyways, since it's basically the exact same thing as the tutorial just with different colours. Take the concept, but really make it your own.

I think you need some more variety in your graphics. Something other than just your name done up fancy. And I'm just guessing here that you have the same problem as me, in that you're rockin' some After Effects but you have no raw footage to work with. Try to find a camera. Any kind of camera. Get some footage and do something with that footage.

You really, really need to do more. Get a 3D program and do some 3D titles. Do some compositing. Do some animated lower thirds. Make a fake commercial or a fake trailer if you don't have any real ones to use. You have color correction and motion tracking listed in that section at the end but you're not demonstrating that. So, yeah, get footage! IMO, your reel at this point is coming off as very... 'I can do tutorials', and I say that because that's pretty much where I'm at, too.

Also, find professional reels and look at what they're doing to see what level you need to get to.

Edit: Here are some cool reels to check out.

I really liked the part at the 38 second mark where you list off programs. There was a part near the beginning that went super fast though. It goes from a wide title, to a city scape, to another city scape in 1 second or less. I was a little confused by that part. Is it supposed to be the same clip or a different clip all together?

There's some cool stuff there, but really, if an employer is going to remember you it's going to be by the quality of your work and not shoving your name in their face. It comes off as very obnoxious and to me and is more of a turn off then a selling point for yourself, especially with that little boast at the end.

Again, let your work speak for yourself.

Try making up some fake company logos and animating around those.

Maybe try cutting the programs used animation into smaller chunks and sprinkle them throughout the reel, so it doesn't drag on so long near the end.
