The only reason I bought Mercs 2 was because it was co-op. I bought it for the 360 though, so I don't think I'm affected?

I'm afraid you are - I don't understand why EA insist on running their own servers when XBL can already handle the task, Mercs 2 in particular sees no benefit whatsoever from this, it's just one extra point of failure. Wasn't one of the Burnouts the first game to feature the EA servers? I vaguely recall some kind of hoopla way back when.

That being said, this thread just goes to show how fucked up gaming in general has become.

    I miss the 90's.

The story I heard was that EA wanted their games to run on their own servers, but Microsoft told them no, that they would run on MS servers like every other game that was going to support Live. So EA told Microsoft that either EA Xbox games would run on EA servers, or they wouldn't be online at all, which would mean that the PS2 would have online exclusivity for Madden, NBA, Nascar, etc, and Microsoft promptly caved.

I don't know if it's true or not, it's just what I heard.

This thread started dumb. You can take pride in the fact that it at least didn't get any dumber.
