It's been a while since this forum needed to be cleaned (read:
cleansed) again, but it's happening. A lot of the megathreads are going to get locked down today. On the plus side, we're going to try and put the megathread ration control in your quivering, clammy hands. No more asking for permission to make most traditional topics.
The experimental new standard is going to be a two-month window. If you are emphatically compelled or otherwise desperate to remake some pre-existing megathread, and it's been more than two months from the day the last iteration ended, you're free to make one. If you try and cheat the system and anyone notices, your OP will be printed off and set on fire in front of you before you're taken out back and shot. But really, at the very least (read:
least), you'll lose the thread for another two months.
I'd be surprised if this perfectly covers all topics and angles right away, so please try and keep the bullshit loophole antics ("this isn't a
food thread, it's a
baking thread") to a minimum or we'll have to come up with a new, more horrible system made entirely out of spite. We also still reserve the right to shut anything down, especially if it has the worst OP imaginable, so don't get all indignant because your Smegma Thread got locked. The fewer intentionally delinquent threads we have to deal with, the less we'll have to intervene overall and the smoother this transition to megathread autonomy should go.
Finally, in case you've forgotten and are in the process of losing your shit, remember that threads pertaining to specific subtopics of things like shows, movies and games
are not megathreads. This new two-month standard does not apply to something like the Mass Effect 2 thread.
Continuing exceptions to the rule:
Youtube
Webcomics
PA Comic Edits
Fitness
Jobs
Still requiring special permission:
Camwhore
Dating (OkCupid/Other)
Basically awful:
Music
Chatlog (Omegle/Chatroulette/Other)

These lists are a work in progress.

Different topics get different threads. We're trying to break up how ugly this forum operates, not trying to prevent you from discussing what you want. It'd be nice not to have to rely on megathreads at all in due time.
