I haven't played either but that seems naive. Rearmed was just a graphical upgrade of the original. How would that indicate the new one being good?

Ragdoll Kung Fu. In case you're wondering, yes, there was a Steam sale.

    What was I thinking?

I got that game for free on the PS3 and STILL regretted the purchase.

Age of Conan. Still have the collectors box near my desk, shaming me every time I look at it. On the plus side, it got me into the Dark Horse Comics Conan series, which is pretty awesome.

I'm also going to go with FF XIII. I'm a broke college student and that 60$ could have bought many other things. I mean, it's pretty, and I'm trying to like it, but it's like I'm watching a movie. I don't care that there are no towns, or the maps are straight lines, I just want to feel like I'm in control of the game. I hear that the battle system opens up after 20 hours or so, but I don't think I can muster the desire to play for 20 hours.
I was in the same boat until I sold it right around the time I got to Gran Pulse, where it supposedly becomes a good game. It does get more open, but the characters, plot, and general world design never stop sucking , not to mention you're never, ever going to want to do the grind to get there again. I'd say go ahead and sell it, I'm glad I did.

Man I'm having the exact opposite experience, everything in the game (everything) is a pure joy to experience, especially the combat system (which is like, the best ever of all time oh my god)

Borderlands (got it on steam, wish I bought it on 360. Awesome game though)

Bioshock - Completely overrated game that has alot of atmosphere and not much else. Combine with the insane amount of problems at launch and the drm issues, just uhg.

Ghostbusters - I have never quit a game for being bad before, but theres always a first I suppose. Got it on the steam sale so I am not out much.

What makes border lands better on 360vs PC?

If I had to guess it's because the 360 multiplayer worked and the PC multiplayer didn't for quite some time.

My biggest regrets are Grandia 3, Eternal Sonata, and Mass Effect 2 digital deluxe edition.

Grandia 3 and Eternal Sonata both suffered from basically the same problem, wonderfully interesting worlds and solid combat systems completely beaten into the ground by the most awful characters possible and a horrendous plot. In all seriousness Alfina and Polka may be the worst characters ever, although every time someone talks about SO:4 I get the feeling Lymle could win that particular fight.

As for ME2, bear in mind that ME2 is my absolute favorite game of all time, however every ounce of bonus content that came with the DD version was shit. In game items? All awful. Soundtrack? Didn't have the songs I wanted the most on it. Art book? Ehhhhhh. The only consolation is that I loved the game so much they earned the wasted money.

Edit: Oh and I adore FF13, just to spite everyone else in this thread :P

Oh boy, is this the topic for me. Anytime I see something thats cheap, I buy it. $20 or lower and its on my shelf. I've acquired enough of regrets that I had to take the boxes off my shelf and create a pile on the floor, to save space.

    Where do I start?

Guild Wars (every installment) - I'm always lured in with the promise of something new and shiny, as they're always modifying the game. Over 2000 hours, and I still don't like the game. I've been in multiple guilds and they're all childish or boring people.

SiN Episodes: Emergence - Maybe if the rest of the series ever saw the light of day, but as it is I feel like I just played a demo and lost $10.

Medal of Honor 10th Anniversary - This game is awful. Every iteration of this series is a painful experience in invisible snipers and slow as all hell aiming mechanics.

Clive Barker's Jericho - Worst game ever? I had to play it. I almost bought Alone in the Dark for the same reason, Jericho made sure I didn't.

The Suffering: The Ties That Bind - It has StarForce. I don't need to say more, but the game itself was painfully easy to predict (and I never played the first), with some cool designs, but not worth a replay.

Fallout Trilogy - I don't know why I bought this in 2009. 10 years ago I would've dug these games, but they're far too outdated now. I basically own them just for the sake of saying I own them.

Halo - This is what gaming drought does. It makes you react to anything with bright colours.

GUN - This game would've been good if it didn't come off as a broken port and wasn't half a game. An open world with two towns and nothing to do between 'em.

KOTOR II - This game was awful. The mechanics were there but the story sure wasn't. I spent the entire game anticipating X or Y, but nothing ever happens because half the game is literally not there. Also, GameStop ripped me off for $15 more than its value, when I got it. I'm pretty bitter about that.

KOTOR 1 - I'm sure its a great game but it crashes every time I go into character customization.

NWN Diamond - If the game had voice acting and more engaging gameplay, it'd be great. As it is, I spent half the time being over encumbered and running off to rest. I never made it past the first couple areas.

Tom Clancy's Chronicle - I bought this bundle just for Splinter Cell but ended up buying a Splinter Cell/Pandora Tomorrow bundle later on. Again, gaming drought dulls the mind.

Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions Colonies Edition - This game was just boring. Straight boring. I went out of my way to find the Colonies Edition, and paid $10 more for it than the regular. So boring.

Velvet Assassin - I got this as part of a buy 2 get 1 free sale. I could've had anything else instead, but I love stealth games. Stealth with checkpoints? Are you fucking kidding? Who makes a game based around meticulous movement and trial and error with checkpoints?

Universe at War: Earth Assault - Petroglyph suck at RTS games (funny, considering I love C&C). I should've known from Empire at War that an entire game based around their ground gameplay would suck. I just loved EaW, though, so I got it.

Age of Empires III Complete Collection - I forgot that I used to just cheat all the time as a kid, so I didn't sit through the boring, endless resource gathering that is the AoE series. I no longer cheat and don't like to cheat during my first play through. Yawn.

Faces of War - I figured a WWII game with squad mechnics, cool. The game was just boring. I got into the first mission and just never went back.

BlackSite: Area 51/TimeShift/Dark Sector/NecroVisioN/Kane & Lynch: Dead Men - Get lumped together as poorly designed, interesting in concept, but otherwise boring shooters.

Left 4 Dead - I played through the first campaign solo. At this point, I realized there was nothing more to do. I had seen all the different bad guys in the first couple hours. I had used the weapons. I had run from the horde. There was nothing else to do. How does anyone enjoy this?

ShellShock 2: Blood Trails - This gets a special mention for being amongst the first games I just stopped playing and said "No. I will not play this anymore."

Dawn of War: SoulStorm - Just because it was $30, but was worth maybe $20, considering I got all 3 other games for a mere $20 in a single bundle.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames - QTEs with pictures? Really? If I hadn't payed only $3, I'd care. Its also generally boring and somethings are really awkward. Why do I need to crouch to aim better? When I aim better, how come it doesn't actually seem that I'm aiming any better?

GTAIV and Red Faction: Guerrilla - I'm on the fence with these. I'm real glad to have them, but they both have such horrible game designs in places, that it makes my head spin.

RPGs as a general rule. Not because I hate RPGs. It is because RPGs are the most bug-ridden, glitchy, crash-prone genre in the history of PC gaming. Every RPG I've played to date has been borked in some way, and from the things I hear about the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Fallout 3 and Oblivion in their earlier days, I'm just amazed at how prolific borked RPGs are.

I bought every single one of those in anticipation of a new computer I was buying. I spent almost as much on shitty games as I did on the PC itself. The lesson here is spend wisely, always try demos, listen to reviews (they might be sometimes skewed, but a 2 out of 10 is a good indicator), ask friends. Just, for God's sake, don't buy things before you have the means to try them yourself.

Also, fuck GameStop for having an ass backwards return policy on PC games because they open them. That cost me lots of money. I'd buy something from them, look at Best Buy a week later and see its on sale or is just regularly cheaper. Best Buy also price matches, GameStop does not. To hell with them.

Oh, it is good to get that off my chest. Whew.

Afro Samurai. I played the demo and was hooked. I got the game for Christmas (okay, so I didn't technically buy it...) and put it off until this weekend until I had at least a full day to myself where I could do nothing but play it.

A few chapters in and I want to snap the disc in half.

It is the best produced piece of shit I have ever played. The graphics and art are stellar, the writing and acting are terrific, pity about the game itself. A clunky camera, boring combat, unskippable cutscenes...I'm getting frustrated just thinking about it.

Oh, and Zoo Keeper for the DS. I thought it would be a neat puzzle game, turned out to be a bad Bejeweled clone.

World of Warcraft... 4 years of my life, kerflush. Did get a sweet iTouch for $90 from a friend on there, but still.

AC/DC Track pack for Rock Band 2.
Resistance: Fall of Man for PS3... played it once, traded it in.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2... I really looked forward to earning unlocks, buying costumes, etc.... then after I bought it I realized they all come unlocked, and its just face-mashing against people online. Meh.

Also, guy who couldn't get into The Witcher and was considering buying the improved version: You don't have to! If you still have your copy of vanilla Witcher, you can patch it up to be identical to the enhanced edition, and even download digital versions of all the pack-in bonuses they included with the EE release. There's also, beyond that, a bugfix patch and a Director's Cut patch which adds in the nudity and stuff that got removed in some regions. CD-Projekt Red are good folks who support their fans.

The WoW regret is one of the things that I really don't relate to. I played it for a while and enjoyed it, got really good value for money if you look at the £/hr and then stopped when I wasn't enjoying it.

I can understand when someone regrets spending time or money on a poor game but to have spent months or years on a game then it must have had some pretty defining features.

I guess it's along the lines of a break up where you are still friends with your ex or a bitter breakup where you hate their guts (reasons aside).

I have not. However, the game managed to receive universal praise from solo and MPs alike, and I have a massive nerdlove for apocalypse stuff (especially mutants/infected and zombies). For $20, I figured I'd give it a go. I spent months trying to figure out it I should, so I just gave in, hah. Silly mistake.

I'd take it online, but I can't for the life of me see how that would make it any better. The game at the core is still the exact same. Every single moment in that game is the exact same. I was mostly disappionted that I saw everything to see 30 minutes in. I was at least expecting the big baddies to be "OH MY GOD, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!" moments. They were instead plainly laid out "get ready, bucko! Tank will come when you touch this button!"

I guess what I wanted was the same game, but in a more desperate style. This was just horde and... horde. I probably shouldn't have said "how can people enjoy this?", I'm just bitter for having been big enough of a silly goose to ignore that it obviously wasn't the game for me.

Edit: Oh, oh! I'd like to put Assassin's Creed on my list. Not because Assassin's Creed is bad, but the only way I could buy it was for $65 as a bundle with some headset. While I do love the headset, less than a month later, the same exact bundle was $20. GameStop, what a joy. No returns, so I just open up any product I get from them, right off the bat. fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff-

    Brutal Legend.

I loves me some metals, and the art style is epic as fuck, but it really turned out to be a different game than I was expecting. I think I was looking for some sort of hack n slash set to metal music.

As soon as people have to break out graphs to show the most efficient ways to zerg rush your opponent with whatever the tactic of the moment is, my eyes just glaze over and I lose the will to put the effort into it.

But then again, I think my problem is I'm not a fan of having to spend a lot of time learning the intricacies of a game to be good at it. I'd rather be able to pick up a game every once in awhile, play it for a bit, set it down for other games for a few weeks and not have to figure out half the game when I come back to it again.

    Aliens vs. Predator and Demigod.

They are also the only two games I ever pre-purchased based on hype. Welp I've learned my lesson good.

Though Demigod wasn't really a bad game, it was pretty fun but you could never get a good game going since the netcode was broken from release. It took them over a month to finally get things fixed to where it was actually playable online with more than 4 people but by that time everyone had stopped playing :(.

    Edit:
The recent Aliens vs. Predator of course, the old one's were actually good.

My only consolation was I realized my error fast, and was able to pawn it off at a minor loss.

Yeah, I must say I was reaaaallly stoked for the game pre-release. Pre-ordered and everything, which I rarely do.

Probably my most recent, biggest gaming disappointment.

I've probably got a few (read: plenty) titles I picked up out of desperation at full price that were a fucking waste. Star Wars Bounty Hunter, the non-Ultimate Destruction Hulk game based on the Eric Bana movie, etc. In fact, for a person who disliked the new Star Wars trilogy, I have way too many games based on it.

I guess it never clicked with me until I saw a Morgan Minute on G4 about "not being afraid to walk out of a store empty handed", meaning not getting any old shit because I'm at the store already.

edit: With Brutal Legend, I don't count it because I'm glad I played it, but it was quite the twist and disappointment. Also got it for free during a B2G1 sale.

GTAIV. I was so excited and I bought it with my first 360. That got traded in after a marathon session of uncomfortable.

hahaha... I played the HELL out of GTA IV.

Unfortunately, it was primarily running from city to city, just fucking around. Storyline-wise, pretty early on I had a 'follow this guy who's insanely awesome on a motorcycle, but dont get TOO CLOSE OH YOU FAIL DO IT AGAIN' and said fuck it.

Yeh, I would have downloaded the patch but I was sick of the game before it was anywhere near so I traded it in.

I don't like keeping games, I trade pretty much all of them in if I can. This has led to me buying a few games multiple times (Mass Effect, Half Life, KotoR.... mainly Steam versions). Stupid online activation has led to me accumulating a small stack though.

I used to trade everything in, until I looked at how much I spent on games, and had like... 4-5 to show for it.

I stopped trading for about 2 months, and now I have 36 360 titles, and 5 PS3. Yowza.

    Drakengard.

Every time I thought I beat it and could finally be rid of it, a more and more bullshit ending came.

Though I'll admit, the final ending was pretty funny.

your post is bad and you should feel bad

Hey now, those are all reasonable. Especially Halo. Halo on PC was a joke. I bought it because when I was 14, my friends and I used to play the demo MP because we had nothing else. I forgot that. I thought we played it because it was good. In 2009, Halo is not good.

I love RTS games, but I like the the part with, ya know... units? I like taking toy soldiers and going "pew, pew! pew, pew!" not taking barbie dolls and going "ok, you live in this house now, and you in that one and lets work the fields!"

    KOTOR 1 is only up there because it won't let me play it. I want to. Badly. I want that game. But it doesn't want me. ;-;

Fallout Trilogy. C'mon, really? Its 2009, the games don't even install on my most machines with copying everything off the discs. I loved Diablo 2 when it first came out and played it all the way until 2005. I could not possibly go back and play it now, I've tried. Outdated doesn't mean bad, it means that progress has been made in said genre to take the interest out of the game.

Also, GTAIV and RFG are silly games designed by geese. One moment I'm going "HOLY SHIT NANO RIFLE" the next I'm going "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this game and its endless soldiers and stupid-in-the-face geurrillas". GTAIV has 3 separate buttons for melee. I don't need to say more than that. I am playing a Grand Theft Auto game with 3 separate buttons for melee.

Furthermore, you hurt my feelings and now I feel bad. Jerk.

Edit: The first Far Cry, too. Far Cry vision, bah. Check points, bah. Those two things ruined it for me. Asides from a stack of RPGs, I also still haven't gotten to Crysis and Far Cry 2, because I'm afraid they'll melt my computer and face off.

Odin Sphere. Here's an action game where there's an insane limit on how much you can attack. God, it was gorgeous, but the slowdown during boss fights was intolerable. I never finished it, which I sorta regret because the story is supposed to be a really good example of intertwining parallel plots.

It's reasonable to not like KotOR 2.

But you're not invited to any of my parties.
