i mean they nuked the hive twice and that didn't work apparently

If they do, the time they have left would be the perfect time for Dom and Marcus to share a tender kiss.

When that time finally comes, there will be nothing tender about that kiss.

Oh shit! That chick was apparently Anya!

Stuff from the official Gears forum

    Features

    * Rod confirmed 4 Player Co-Op in the Gears IRC, with 4 unique characters. (FUCKING YES!!!)

    Story

    * Set 18 months after Gears of War 2, and after the fourth Gears of War book (Fourth book? Is that a mistake?)
    * The location shown in the "Ashes to Ashes" trailer is a location nicknamed 'Char', where the remains of victims from the Hammer of Dawn strikes are heavily present.

    Weapons

    * The Pendulum Lancer is in Gears of War 3 (So a lancer with a bayonet instead of a chainsaw? How is this a good thing?)
    * A Double Barrelled Shotgun was spotted in the Ashes to Ashes trailer

    Characters

    * Dom is now heavily bearded. According to Rod, this is due to his problems dealing with the loss of his wife.
    * Anya is the female COG soldier seen in the "Ashes to Ashes" trailer. We will learn more on her transition from pencil pusher to soldier throughout the books.

    Enemies

    * Lambent Locust: These enemies mutate and transform as you fight them.

Day 1, midnight release. Probably the LE, too. I'm a Gears whore.

Gears has always been a single player franchise to me. Maybe I'll actually play the MP online this time. I never played Gears 1 online, but part of that was due to getting my 360 a week after Halo 3 dropped. I played a handful of Horde rounds with friends online in Gears 2. Tried a couple online MP Gears 2 matches, but the exorbitant matchmaking times and the games being full of glitchers killed that right quick. Thankfully they added bot support in 2, so I at least got to experience what the MP was all about. I'd still love to go through the campaigns of both games co-op sometime. None of my friends were ever interested in it. Crazy, silly geese the lot of them are.

I still need to finish my Insane run of 2's campaign. I got stuck at Skorge. For whatever reason I just cannot beat him. Those pillars he chainsaws down are bullshit magic homing pillars.

You have to dodge at exactly the right time. Also, it helps if you're on the other side of the room as the pillar. It takes slightly longer to hit you.

I can't wait for the new multiplayer modes where players will find new exploits and cheats to further ruin any hopes of normal gameplay, and to have said cheats ignored by Epic as they rake in the millions of dollars that they won't use toward fixing their piece of shit netcode.

This game is not getting my money. It saddens me that Gears of War has become a haven for cheaters to get their groove on, and Epic couldn't give a toss since they're profiting from it. They're as bad as Activision, except MW2 actually patches most of their exploits.

I know about the dodging and how the fight works, but that doesn't change the fact that the pillars decide they're too good for physics.

It'll probably just wind up being a bunch of multi-phase boss fights, only with smaller critters.

Though it'd be cool if there was a base lambent and depending how you fought it, it would morph into different creatures. (Like if you chainsawed it, it'd become two smaller, wretch like creatures; if you shoot it with bullets, it's skin hardens and it become slower and more brutish. Etc. etc.)

I have to be honest, I played a crapload of Gears 2 and quite a bit of Gears 1 and the amount of glitching, cheating, what have you was a very small percentage, especially in the case of the former. Not to say that when it did happen it wasn't the most infuriating thing in the world, because fuck it all it was, but fortunately having host advantage a significant portion of the time made it more than worth while as one could destroy the world with the shotgun or better yet a meat shield and a magnum pistol.

And while Epic may not give a shit about fixing most glitches, at least they had the decency to fix the smoke grenades. Too bad they couldn't have fixed the staggering on the lancer, but whatever. And really some of the glitches stem so much from the damn game engine, you'd have to tear the whole thing down just to make it work.

I wonder what they'll do with horde, since it's their most popular mode.

Increase squad size? Customizable waves of units and weapons?

They need to add boss fights or at least bigger enemies at the end of each set of 10. I was hoping a Brumak would show up when you hit wave 50, but just the same old, same old.

I can't take that trailer seriously. They actually managed to fuck up the tone even worse than the mad world one did. The trailers/commercials are always well made and stand well on their own, but if you know anything about Gears you know they're complete bullshit. You never even know what the story is about when playing, all the characters don't give a shit about anything but annihilating motherfuckers, and I don't recall a single tear being shed by anyone in either game. Stuff like the Gears 3 trailer would have you believe it's a contemplative game with philosophical themes towards war or a sci-fi vision of the future. Microsoft can afford to hire the most talented commercial guys out there, I'd imagine they could find someone who could do something as artistically nuanced as the Gears 3 trailer is while at the same time keeping the tone of the game, instead of throwing it out the window and only focusing on making it cool.

    Ok, rant over.
