Gears of War 3: Slow thread is slow (and dead)

Apparently there's another bar to fill after you hit 100 but it doesn't get you anything when you fill it.

EDIT: Also, I recommend everyone go into lockdown mode until launch. Avoid the shittier sites like Gamefaqs and Neogaf, and don't read the chat windows during the Epic live steam q&a.

Also, EspantaPajaro, I got spoiled awhile back so much that I realized either this is going to a very repetitive campaign, or most of the people are full of shit. The people posting spoilers probably have a good 50/50 chance of being complete liars. Until you play the game, you won't know if they're accurate until you see it for yourself, so chin up!

I go there to fight over the internet and watch people do the same. It isn't THAT bad , its just that trolls flock to the boards of big releases. I guarantee that MW3 and BF3 boards will be hit worst just because they are bigger franchises .

So last night, thanks to my new wireless router, I got to Lvl 40 with my brother and he got to 26 (playing nothing but Boomer filled Horde).
However after the game updated we started playing (we were both signed in) and he was level 1, but got the first 3 ranking achievements before we even started playing.

Gears 2 handles achievements poorly with a second player. One of the ways a lot of people had Seriously 2.0 early was by abusing it.

Speaking of which, I'm on 87536 kills so far. Might hit it tonight or tomorrow.

I think most games handle achievements poorly with more than one player. I cant count the number of times the same achievement pops for each player but a second achievement pops once (with the appropriate number of green markings) then a third, different achievement pops again for every player...

Hotel has a serious mansion vibe going on , both teams start by there entrance to the building with a torque bow spawn on a higher ground with a side street that leads to the big power weapon outside. This is good , I fucking LOVE mansion.

And yeah, I can see the comparison to Mansion with hotel, but it feels smaller because there's a LOT less cover. It's still got the two side entrances and the choke point front door, but outside is a lot less of a maze whereas inside is a little more intricate. I can see myself liking it a lot for Horde but not so much in multi. Then again, it's all I've played Gears 3 Horde on, so.

It's weird how none of the news outlets have picked up this DLC story. I wonder if they already knew and are just under an NDA, or if they just don't think it's a worthwhile headline. I always figured "Developer released tons of day-one DLC" would bring in tons of hits.

They are under NDA till the 15th , when that breaks I imagine you will hear more about it , im sure the reviews will mention it if the sites have any backbone.

That's not how NDAs work. Even if it's specifically covered under the NDA, if it's leaked by a third party and Epic themselves are talking about it, there's nothing stopping you reporting on it. NDAs are designed to prevent the person who signed it leaking info, not a gag order on the info itself.

So you may or may not recall my outspoken disdain for Gears of War 2's multiplayer matchmaking and netcode. I believe "twice regurgitated dog shit" was a term passed back and forth, and if it wasn't...well that's what it was.

I made a personal vow that I wouldn't suffer heartache by buying it on release day, because I'm 99% positive the multiplayer is not going to work on the first day, or week....or year, even.

But then Amazon had to go and offer a $20 gift card for pre-ordering.

That's how they get me. That's how they always get me. Sure would come in handy for Dark Souls (a game I simply won't put off).

I just want to know if somebody who isn't a journalist or PR guy has actually seen the fabled "dedicated servers" in action. Because no matter how many times they insist it, I will never believe it exists until I see it with my own eyes. Thought I was going to see it in the Beta, but nope.

I think my sudden spike in desire for the game stems from my nostalgia of playing the original. Is it too early to consider a 2007 game "nostalgia"?

I thought the beta did use dedicated servers? The beta matchmaking worked perfectly for me

Anyway, I get nostalgic when I hear the music for Oblivion which also came out in 2006 so I can totally understand that.

It did , but it doesn't explicitly tell you when you are and aren't on one. Also Ranked games get priority so there is also that.

Honestly even without the servers the P2P code is much improved. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this on launch, dude.

Exactly the only reason people wanted servers was because gow2 was wildly inconsistent.

Well the Beta was overall better than the entirety of Gears 2, but there were still matches where things felt like they were working against you. Such as the randomness of shotguns.

Seriously, if there's one thing I hope they learned from that beta is to finally fucking control the damage output of shotguns.

I don't know what to tell you , I though the Gnasher was perfect in the beta. If its really that hard for you to use you can just use the DBS. Or hell the retro , the new guns seem to be specifically tailored for people that have difficulty with the Gnasher. With the nerf to the DBS one hit down and the retro hipfire I believe the weapon balance is just fine.

First week or so of the beta didn't have dedicated servers, but they were up for most of the rest of it. Whether or not they were actually running or it was just a giant conspiratorial lie or something is not anything anyone can actually tell you. At least no one who you'd trust. There's a lot of shit coming out this fall, so don't feel compelled to get Gears3 if you don't think it'll live up to your standards.

I'm confident I would enjoy Gears 3 greatly, so long as when everything was said and done the multiplayer was an improvement over the second game.

The fact that they had a Beta at all fills me with hope.

Or maybe they learned nothing and it'll run like crap from the start. There's no way to know. But I'm probably going to bite early regardless.

Welcome to my world from like 2 years ago. I think I had my saves wiped about 3 times before I gave up ever finishing it on insanity. I completed two playthroughs on casual and hardcore first then it wiped the saves, I thought it was a one off thing so I played through on casual again with a friend to unlock insanity. Got to the pumping station at the end of act 3 on insane before it wiped again. Started another casual playthrough to unlock insanity AGAIN and it destroyed my saves before the end of act 1.

I was playing through the campaign on Insane and the game froze while loading Act 4, right during the checkpoint.

Head up Joegraf has apparently said that the season pass does not get you the first four DLC packs , it gets you the four specific dlc packs that Epic chooses. Aka you get what they want you to get and if something comes out dont assume you already paid for it. This DLC bullshit needs to die man. The more I hear from epic the more I wonder what the hell they are thinking. I was thinking about getting it but now im going to hold off for a bit this is shady stuff man.
