i brought up the idea in the other thread about starting up a game of the super-cool fresh-off-the-presses RPG the Dresden Files, based on the popular novel series by Jim Butcher.

a lot of people seem pretty keen on the idea, so i'm going to go ahead and see who's interested. i'm planning on doing this over Google Wave since the city and character creation steps are not only intertwined but also very collaborative.

the only thing that's set in stone is that the game will be set in Kansas City, Missouri. other than that, we're going to just play things by ear and see how it goes.

What You Will Need:

* A copy of Your Story (seen above)

this is pretty much non-negotiable. i want to support Evil Hat and the Dresden Files RPG, so if you want to play you have to support them too! also i want the players to have skimmed through the book and have a vague idea of the general procedures for creating characters and cities.

* Google Wave

if you have Google Wave, great, go ahead and give me your address. if not but you still want to play, send me (or someone else who is willing to send out invites) a PM and i can get you on the wave.

* A raging hard on for everything Dresden Files

this isn't required, but it helps.

Arc, I'm interested. What should I put in my application?

easy! just tell me what games you're in, if you've read the Dresden Files and how far in you are if you haven't finished, compliment me on my dashing good looks, how often you'd be able to post, that sort of thing.

i'm not planning on starting this game for at least another week, more likely two, so recruitment may be open for awhile. i will say that my max limit is going to be three players and the power level is likely to be fully submerged in the supernatural.

Other Pertinent Information

this is going to probably be set post-Changes! great novel, but it shakes up a lot of things in the Dresdenverse, so if you haven't read it i'd recommend getting ahold of it and doing so. if you don't plan on it though, you're going to inevitably bump up against some spoilers.

my googlewave address is arc.the.imp@googlewave.com.

Update 4/21: okay i've got more than enough people to pick from already, so if you're interested unfortunately i'm not taking any new candidates. however if you're really interested you're more than welcome to follow along with us on Google Wave.

Update 4/25: campaign's title is now Bleeding Kansas, with more details to follow pending character and city creation

Update 5/2: we have an Obsidian Portal page here for anyone interested in seeing the progress on the setting so far.

I'm definitely interested in being part of this if at all possible. As for what games I'm in I'm currently playing in Vale of Buried Shadow, and the Gladiators. Also I'm GMing The Rising Cost of Justice. Yeah I realize I'm in more than a few games already but I'd be able to post once a day without a doubt, and in most cases more often than that.

I've read all of the Dresden Files stories except for Changes and a few of the short stories that have been put out to date. Without a doubt Harry Dresden is one of my all time favorite characters and I've enjoyed his exploits. Who doesn't want to be Dresden at least some of the time?

Although I don't have my copy of the book yet I will in the next few days at which point I'll work up a concept. In the meantime I've been looking over the various character types and I'd probably go with a Wizard, some sort of Were-Form, of a Knight of the Fairy Court if such a thing was allowed in your game. Yeah I like Mab. I will base my submission on your whim and what else gets submitted in the meantime.

Oh and you're a very dashing Arcanis.

I just want to open by saying i have fond dreams of you that make me question my heterosexuality. (too much? ) Anyway I love the dresden files, I got the first tradeback, read all the books up to changes, and saw the tv show.

I'm currently in rising cost of justice but can post at least once a day if not more. I would mostl ikely be a focused practioner and do as the book says. cruise latin prefixes and slap on mancer to see what sounds cool

I'm currently running Touch of Madness, and I'm playing in the Gladiators T1 game.

I just got the PDFs, and I've read all of the Dresden novels up to Changes.

I'm not sure what kind of character I'd like to try. I need to read over the PDF's a little more before I decide.

Out of curiosity would this campaign be set at any particular point in the Dresden Files story? I know we'd be in KC but would it be post Changes or at some earlier point? I only ask for character creation purposes.

actually, we're going to be doing character creation collaboratively when we all meet up the wave. it's cool to brainstorm, but don't get focused on any particular idea just yet

also i'd like to keep it current within the Dresden-verse, so consider it to be post-Changes

When you say everything, does that mean I have to like the TV show ?

Cause I really didn't like that.

I've read Small Favor (and all the ones that came before).

I sent you a wave message. The centurion marks the man.

I'll pick up Turncoat at some point, Changes will have to wait as I don't want to change my policy regarding hardcover books.

I just got to this chapter in Changes and think it would make for an awesome emissary of power
The Erlking. Throw in a sword/javelin/hunting weapon. shapeshift into a Hound of the Hunt, and able to use that greenfire.

    Ugh. Audio... ***shudder***

And, unfortunately, I live in the "french" part of canada, where libraries (at least those in my town) only carry books in English if they were written by Danielle Steel...

we spent this evening beginning work on city creation. Here's what we have so far:

    Name: Kansas City, MO
    Campaign Title: Bleeding Kansas

    Idea - Theme
The fountains of KC are arranged to disrupt large-scale ritual magic (such as a Darkhallow)
    Aspect: Go With the Flow
Faces: Sir Reginald Fontleroy, Leader of the Knights of Aquarius

    Idea - Threat
Warlock attempting to break the Aquarian Confluence
    Aspect: Warlock on the Warpath
Faces: Augustus Sinclair, Southern Gentleman; Sharon DuBois, Records Clerk and Apprentice to the Renegade

    Idea - Threat
Conflicts between Autumn and Spring are spilling into the mortal realm
    Aspect: Caught in the Crossfire
Faces: Puck, Overeager Princeling and Lord of Autumn; Valarian, Spring Court Nobleman; George Jones, Leader of the Night Watch and Concerned Citizen

the general idea is that the fountains of Kansas City were constructed to form a big geomantic figure that prevents large-scale ritual magic from going off within the city; this was created by a front organization for the Autumn Court called the Knights of Aquarius.
