Romantic things to do in New York?

Me, my brother, sister and parents are all going to New York in July for a week. The last night of this holiday will co-inside with my Parents' 29th Wedding Anniversary. I'm hitting on the idea of setting up something special for them to do together. Any suggestions? It doesn't necessarily have to be mushy, but I'd like it to be something they can share together.

Cheesy, but still good for a couple that's been together a long time: carriage ride through the park.

That was my first thought, but my Mother's been to New York before and didn't care for Central Park. Apparently it smells a lot.

tell your dad to go to the top of the empire state building and have your mom meet him there.

or just have them go to the top of the empire state building together if the whole seperate idea sounds kinda unmanagable.

ala: an affair to remember (or if you prefer: sleepless in seattle)

    Sunset @ Coney Island

Walk down the West Side from Chelsea Piers

http://www.frenchculinary.com/ -> I know that's a school but they have a restaurant on 462 Broadway and you can get great French cooking on the cheap plus meeting the Chef which is always cool.

And across the street from that is: http://www.balthazarny.com/ which is ridiculously expensive but incredibly romantic.

I have a feeling she was only in the south east end of CP, yes that smells because of the stables and zoo and such....you may want to give it another try further up north, 72nd west side to the middle of the park is really a nice area.

With that said, the smell she didn't like was PROBABLY the horses, ha, so yeah probably bad idea to do a horse and carriage ride.

And I would have to say lunasea's suggestion of coney island is lunacy......that place is so terrible and rundown and unromantic to me..ha

I'm having trouble coming up with anything romantic though, a show (ballet, musical, etc) as lunasea suggested is the best thing I'm coming up with. I'll ask around to my married friends and see what they have to say.

Nah, it's incredibly crowded there. Fun though but not romantic.

Had an idea of my own: Would a Helicopter Ride together be special enough?
