I have an extensive music collection on my PC, that I stream through my network and play on my home audio system using my PS3 and sometimes my 360. I use my PS3 more for that, because of the flexibility that PS3 Media Server gives me when browsing the files on my computer, so I'm going to focus my question on the PS3.
I HATE the way I have to browse music on the PS3, and HATE the fact that I have to drill down to specific albums in order to select music.
Does anyone know of a way to allow functions such as "Shuffle All" from my entire collection?
If someone knows of a way to do this on a 360, please let me know too.
I'm pretty sure on the 360 you can create a Windows Media Player Playlist that has every song you own on it and load that up to get all your songs. I'm not sure how to do it on the PS3, however.
i use tversity. it means i can just select audio>music>all and it displays every song alphabetically (with album art, now!). hit one to play it and then choose shuffle.
I'm currently using PS3 Media Server, and while it allows me to access all of my files, the limitations of the PS3 itself prevent me from being able to shuffle from my entire catalog. I also can't play playlists unless I save my music locally onto the PS3 first, and then re-create the playlist on the PS3.
That is of course, unless I'm missing some blatantly obvious setting that would allow me to do that.

it's not a limitation of the ps3, because i do it with tversity every day. it's a limitation of how ps3 media server presents its music to your ps3
as far as i recall you can even see your whole song list, and shuffle it, through windows media player's streaming function

Does anyone else have any suggestions, if TVersity doesn't work?

edit: if for some reason it doesn't, the playlist idea should also do the job. though it's a bit of an obtuse process
