This game was shown the other night on Whiskey Media's Happy Hour during one of their free shows. One unpleasant surprise was that it actually does not have online co-op. I could have sworn they had it would, but the human memory isn't always known for accuracy.
Anyway, it's shown twice in the show. The first segment features co-op, the second features the challenge rooms.
I was surprised to learn during the show that it's coming out this week!
Joystiq gives it a 3/5, saying it doesn't live up to the first Rearmed. They note the writing, while still cheesy, isn't as good as before, and that the weapons aren't good for much more than being tools, leaving you to just use the standard gun most of the time. And that there is little need for strategy or technique to dispose of enemies or bosses, like in the first.
For those that like it hard, apparently there is an energy regenerator which practically breaks the game. And the only difference in difficulty levels seems to be damage-- enemies taking six hits to kill instead of five, and though they deal more damage to Rad, the number of hits it takes to die is the same. And practically negligible with the regenerator.
I'm a little concerned, admittedly, but I'll be getting this anyway, once I find a place to put it. I really need a bigger 360 hard drive...

Hmm hopefully its good...I'm downloading now. I haven't read their review yet but I'm going to take it with a grain of salt for now considering that one of their complaints is the writing. Not as good as before. Seriously? I don't remember a lick of the dialog in the first, and that wasn't why it was awesome.
We appear to be in fake Cuba, not fake Russia. So we'd be blowing up Castro's head. And you know our track record is like when it comes to blowing up Castro's head.

Having picked this up and then reading the Joystiq review, I laughed.
So stupid.
Having gotten past the first four levels, and just finished the first one again old-school without any jumping - I feel that this is a fine sequel to Rearmed thus far.
EDIT: And to answer a question earlier in the thread: Yes, there is an achievement for getting through all the levels without jumping. There's even one for doing an entire level with only bionic abilities to defeat enemies: TASC Operative.

I do think it's a mistake to put such limited ammo on the secondary weapons. I don't really ever want to use them, and there's basically no need to anyway.
Edit: The bosses really aren't very good so far.

Someone was saying over on Gaf that this game is locked to those who at some point stop having the internet. (Hey, it could happen)

It's like what they did with Final Fight: the PS3 version requires you to login to PSN in order to play, combating PSN game sharing. So essentially, yeah.
Xbox version doesn't have that requirement. It's solved on the PC by not actually releasing on the platform.

Oh, only the PS3 version...sweet. That makes me less nervous to buy the game.
I saw the required internet connection to play thing before I bought it, but unlike Final Fight I couldn't resist. It is pretty stupid. Sony builds a sharing loophole into every console...so...then game companies punish consumers. Hrm?
I have a pretty shitty connection at my house, so we'll see if it actually becomes a problem with the whole disconnect/kicked from game thing.
I am not liking the level design at all. It's all very repetitive and too easy. The bosses and abilities are kind of poorly designed for the most part too.
It's a shame because the visuals and music are great. Maybe these guys should stick to old NES/SNES remakes. They should do Castlevania 3 for Konami or something.

Yeah the bosses are very poor. And the camera doesn't scroll down far enough to let you see if you're going to fall into a pit.
I just beat it (without jumping) and the last boss is the dumbest shit ever, as well.
Well it didn't take long last night to get a connection error while playing BC2. Thankfully it does not boot you out like some have said, the connection is only necessary initially it seems.
So anyways I'm only up to level 3, jungle I think. I'm finding the controls to feel quite different, but not in a bad way. Visually this game looks great, they must have learned a great deal from making the first one because this game has so much more depth to the foreground/background.

I just did the Beat Something Big level.
The game is OK, but definitely not as good as the original. It sure does look nice!
Also, at times Nathan Spencer's face looks very similar to Mike Patton to me, but I could just be thinking that because Patton played Nathan Spencer in the 2009 game. I'm mainly thinking of the pose he's in on the helicopter at the beginning when he grumbles about rookies.
My enthusiasm towards this game has steadily declined the further I've gotten. It's not a bad game by any means (god, that fucking IGN review is the worst), but it does feel kind of haphazard at times. The pacing isn't great, the bosses really are kind of shitty and although I've gotten used to the controls, the physics feel buggy at times.
There are also a lot of fucking levels. I don't think the level design is bad, but I do think they might have been better off had they focused on a smaller amount altogether. At some point the levels start feeling samey, which definitely was not the case in the first game. The challenge rooms are also kind of boring, and not really all that creative or challenging.
But even if I'm lukewarm on the product as a whole, it's still a lot of fun to play. It certainly doesn't deserve the complete inattention it is getting.

The last level is annoying as hell, holy shit. Big difficulty spike - it's very long with lots of hard blind jumps. Not being able to move the camera down is infurating.

I fully agree. From time to time I feel like this game just wants to make me angry. Kind of a bummer.

I just beat it. I actually thought the last few levels were among the best in the game. Though I don't really feel like going through it again on retro/hard anytime soon.
Good game, but kind of wasted potential.

Really love the last level, though that last boss is pretty stupid.
The game as a whole is pretty great, but not as good as the first by any stretch.
I can't believe how little the internet seems to care about this, though. I can't find any useful Yashichi/Upgrade location guides anywhere.
Also, how do you beat the Gorilla and Final boss without jumping?
Gorilla
take the hits, use health regen, can't take even one more hit than necessary. read also: this is fucking retarded and you lied to me capcom
Last Boss
i assume you're talking about jumping over the low missile? just hit it with your claw arm. i did this anyways since i was so used to hitting missiles from super hard hitler from the last game

So I played a little of this earlier. First impression is that I'm kind of not into it. The swinging feels really jerky and unnatural. It tries to do something midway between the full retro thing the first rearmed did and the full physics thing GRIN's other BC did, but it gets completely confused between the two and just... doesn't feel right. I don't know. Maybe it's something I'll get used to, but both of the other games felt right as soon as I picked them up.

I'm still slowly getting through the game. Last night I decided I would have more fun if I just avoided using the jump button altogether, and I was right. If I run into another boss like the gorilla I will probably choose to use jumping again, but only because that sounds really fucking annoying otherwise.
I think I caught a Contra reference during a conversation between Spencer and Joe last night about an impenetrable wall.

This is most likely a reference to Area 06 in the original Bionic Commando (and Rearmed), in which there's a wall (ludicrously easy to fly over with a heli, mind you) blocking your way that you require the Bazooka to pass, because well, video game logic.

Ahh right, been a while since I played either one.
After completing it once, I've decided to do a retro run, while looking for upgrades, and then hopefully I'll be able to click it to hard and do a prestige run while finding the Yashichis. I say hopefully because I really have no clue where some of the Yashichis are. Still can't believe there are no online guides anywhere.

That chopper pilot reminds me... of Frank West?
This would make sense, as a nod back to the Bionic Arm in one of Dead Rising's versions.

I take this back. The one at the AA station was pretty rad.
But overall, as a huge Rearmed 1 fan I'm kind of thrown off by the controls and the lack of difficulty.
Edit: and if you were wondering you DO have to beat the level after going back for the upgrades.
also: I don't very much care for most of this game so far.
