Project Offset is a FPS game set in a fantasy world, it reminds me partly of Elder Scrolls or The Lord of the Rings as far as the world setting goes. It was started by three (yes just three) people being one programmer and two artists in 2004. The team has grown since then but here is a video clip showing what they accomplished with only the three members back in 2005.

The little bits of this that we did see definitely had a bit of a Dark Messiah vibe.
I don't know what to expect about ever seeing anything from Project Offset again. It's been a while, and Intel isn't having great luck with this kind of thing. I mean, Alan Wake was their quad-core showpiece and, coincidentally, now it isn't even coming to the PC.
Pretty much, I was all excited about this game years ago but their website hasn't been updated since what, March '09? Over a year ago? Yeah, this is either vaporware or when it does come out nobody will give a shit because it will have been surpassed by dozens of other games.
The graphics in PO made my fucking jaw drop in 2004/2005.
Still look pretty good, but have very little hope of seeing this out ever, and gawd knows how it would hold up as a modern title. The graphical 'wow' factor is trickling away with time.

Good thing that the melee fighting stuff is in 3rd person. If Dark Messiah did anything well, it certainly proved that melee fighting from first person perspective just doesn't work.
Sad to hear that this game might've gone the vaporware route, it looks pretty and interesting.
Who cares about the graphics, it was the gameplay that looked awesome back in the day. Now I can't bring myself to give a shit anymore. Not because there's better out there but because there's no point in getting excited over something that's never going to come out. Ever. Duke Nukem Forever will be released first.
Noooo, I'm not bitter about this at all. :P
edit: reVerse, what do you mean? The melee fighting in DMoMM was fucking sweet.

Obviously you didn't play the same Dark Messiah that the rest of us did.

Dark Messiah's melee combat was clunky, horrible and the narrow view inherent in the FPS genre made any attempt to establish any kind of situational awareness without wildly moving the mouse around impossible. Compared to Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, a third-person sword fightin' game, the combat in Dark Messiah was unacceptably poor, and when you get outdone by a game that came out ten years before your game there's some serious problems with your product.
Also shit: Zeno Clash, combat sections of Mirror's Edge.
Zeno Clash is the only game better than Dark Messiah when it comes to first person melee combat. It's soooo good. You, like, punch people. And it rocks.

You know he is only hating on the combat in those games because the combat was in fact good, and he knows we will disagree with him. He's just trolling.
Anyhow, back on topic. I forgot this game even existed. I heard it got canceled but apparently it is just vapourware?
Escape from Butcher Bay had wonderful first person melee combat.
Yes it did. I almost forgot about that. So did Dark Athena, though i guess they are pretty much the same deal. I loved those finishing kill animations with knives and such. So brutal.

Well, I enjoyed the way that combat was portrayed in Mirror's Edge a lot. I mean, you're a 95 pound girl who has spent all of her time mastering parkour. She's not going to hit like a Peterbilt, shoot like Ding Chavez or fight like Ryu Hyabusa.
These are the most recent vids of the game, but they're only tech demos. Have not seen much in the way of gameplay for some time.
The development team is also only very small, so they can only really pick at it. Intel threw money at them at one point to promote Intel's Dual and Quad core stuff, so they've got funding as well.
At the moment, the game is a curiosity more than anything. If there is not anything by next E3 that is even remotely playable, I won't hold my hopes up.

I loved that game.
Sold.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
Let me know if anything solid is ever really announced.
I figure this will never come out though.

Do you know what I do to people that call Zeno Clash's combat bad?

Easily one of the greater attempts.
Let's Play Resident Evil Nemesis
Edit: And yes, butcher bay, condemned and Zeno Clash are all great too.
