I know they Army uses mcafee for alot of network functions, probably most of the military does.

When I was in everyone used McAfee, but it was always a version at least three years behind.

Luckily the army just upgraded machines to vista, model of the modern military.

Air Force is in the process of this upgrade too. It's great when everyone fights over the XP machines because Vista keeps crashing.

I had no clue what I was using until just now and turns out it's avg. I suppose it's doing alright, but I'm the sort of person who doesn't figure anything out until the screen is all scary and blue.

does it still? I thought most of it was driver problems.. shouldn't vista be about as stable as win7 nowadays?

I haven't had a virus since high-school. I usually just browse smartly but you never know what shit might end up fucking you. So I used McAfee just in case and it seems to have worked just fine.

I guess if Avast is better I could switch to that.

I have no idea, it's like they don't want to have the best because it would be too easy. And honestly, nothing ever works on our machines. I especially hate doing electronic aircraft forms on Vista, GO81 always fucking crashes when I'm in the middle of writing shit up.

Yeah, I don't generally put anything on our Macs.

We have a version of McAfee for OS X, but all it ever seems to do is eat up 100% of the CPU and grind everything to a halt.

tell the air force to upgrade their ram

That would require speaking to someone in the comm squadron, and I feel like going on a murderous rampage every time I have to get a hold of one of these people.

Alot of military designed programs were made for xp, and now with moving to vista the programs don't work anymore. So they have to be modified or completely redone which why vista or 7 would still be buggy for it's users.

Ever since I got a crapload of information stolen earlier this year, I've been paranoid of exactly this.

Then I put in a USB memory stick and MSE is like "That thing's infected, lemme fix that for you" and I'm slightly reassured.

I get Symantec free through my school, but the couple of times I've been infected, Symantec didn't do anything to help (however, I suppose it's possible that Symantec's saved me a thousand other times, and I just never noticed). The last time I got infected (off Bulbapedia :x) I had to download Malwarebytes with a different install name to get rid of it.
