Yep we raged about it for a while. Until a particularly silly goose came in and compared anti-abortion protests showing emergency late-term surgical abortion procedures with routine early term chemical abortions, and said that shame was a perfectly acceptable tool to mandate being used on a woman in the abortion clinic office on the day of her abortion. That kind of derailed the thread for a while.

Yes it's an emergency medical procedure it's going to look bad. It also saved the mother's life. Like gosh, for an 'enlightened' bunch you sure do seem to get off on showcasing other people's misery.
Every side showcases other people's misery. Anti-war, anti-drunk driving, anti-abortion, anti-sweatshops, etc. How are you supposed to make an appeal for change when you don't show off what's broken? Guilt, horror, and shame get things done.
The thing is it's extreme silly goosery. Therapeutic abortion to save the life of the mother is the last form that's ever going to be restricted even in light of a policy of restriction. Seriously, there are like six countries in the world where it's illegal to abort to save the life of the mother (Saudi Arabia isn't even on that list). Only the most extreme pro-lifers would try to make the case that such abortions should be legal. So how is that "broken"? It's like holding a sign up saying "Here's what will still be permitted if our demands are met".
Unless the pro-lifers dislike the particulars of the procedure that is used to save that mothers life, like how partial birth abortion that is outlawed in the US.
