Just interchange Tri and Cir with X and A.. (its the same face button layout).
-and don't forget about your + button, the spin slash for SnS is on there.
Per Capcoms suggestion, I need to take a break for today. I think I have been playing since 9 this morning. . .:/
Having said that, today has cemented my love for my BowGun. It so versatile. Whether its pumping allies up with Health or Strength boosts, or draining the stamina out of big baddies (no more tailswipes Barroth!) - it just brings the noise. Not to mention the variety of offensive ammo. I enjoy laying a trap, planting a bomb, and then triggering the bomb with a Crag shot. Good times!

I gotta say I'm always extremely thankful when I get hit by those green bullets.
had an awesome, AWESOME run tonight you guys. Killed some Barroths and some Quros and ALL KINDS of shit!
And despite all this awesomeness, I'm still broke and itching for my next fight. Man, this game is really well balanced between rewarding you for hunts yet motivating you to go back out there. Great system for motivating the vets to help newbs too.
Anways, Toxic, Kazak, Anderson, you guys rock. Can't wait till next time.
Is MH3 kid friendly? How mad would my sister be if I bought it for my 10 year-old nephew? I'd like to play it but do not want to buy a Wii just for one game, awesome though it is. Are there multiple save slots or character profiles for single player?

There are, yes. Also, you can turn of blood in the game.

My 13 year old sister played it for a long time today and loves it. Lots of kid friendly puns and jokes in the in-game text. Blood can be turned off if you want. Dead monsters have death throes and twitch realistically which might be too gruesome for some, it's honestly worse than seeing blood...but in general it's kid-friendly.
Gameplay might not be kid-friendly though! It's tough.
I bet a middle schooler could master this in less time than it takes some of us to read the manual. I remember thinking I was awesome at Smackdown Vs. Raw back in the day, only to get obliterated by a friends 12 year old brother. If they play video games - this ones complexity will be right up their alley.
Plus its one of the more "thinking" games out there, in that its more than hack slash.
This is my first Monster Hunter and I just beat Quropeco in single player and it's pretty great (his armor looks terrible though : ( ). I had my doubts about the combat from watching videos but it's grown on me pretty quickly. Taking the lance and shield against a circle of ten Jaggies in the boss fight was pretty fun. But I switched to bowgun because the bnahabra gunner armor is too terrific, even though I only have the boots.
I might mess around with online tonight but I won't have a keyboard or anything until tomorrow so it might just result in : ( This might actually cut into Super Street Fighter 4 time, though.
So if I don't really get into this game for a few days I'm not going to be super-never-catch-up-to-everyone-else-ever-far-behind, am I? Are there good methods for getting peeps up to speed?
I do see that multiple characters are accommodated/encouraged, which is nice.
something that irks me though is the hunter notes (capture with wii-remote) feature.. why don't they just have the buy-able books? its very awkward to have to bring up the monster notes and drag a monster into the lower right) ---all while not being able to do anything but run around---

Grinding Hunter points isn't really that tough. And, even with "low"rating, so long as you complete for enough in SP, you can do some damage online - even solo things online missions.

super-secret tip here! The monster doesn't have to be alive when you do it.
The one nit pick (other than the PS2 graphics) is the fact that once you get into a menu, it takes forever to get out of it - this sucks during monster hunts, but is even more frustrating when you are trying to put something together in the tavern, and you are looking through quests or Armorsmithing, and you see your squad say they are about to bail - or that someone "is gonna grab a sandwhich". In both instances I frantically closed out my windows when I heard the chimes. . .I was quite disappointed on the lack of reward for my urgency on the second instance.
Still, getting beat down by a Barroth, winging him for about 30 to 40 minutes, 2 out of the 3 faints used, no pots left (so only a nap can recover you) and only three hunters - when the guy finally does unexpectedly drop (and its always when you least expect it), makes it all worth it.
It's a tough choice. The critical hit chance for the Sabertooth looks great. 55% to do x1.5 damage? That comes out to be, what, 552 damage? The extra defense and higher base attack of the Elder Babel Spr is nice, too.
In any case, my next purchases will be Barroth armor parts. I need a lot more shells and maybe another scalp, so that's what I'll be doing tomorrow. I hope someone can help me with it, as it's a tough son of a bitch.

Ugh this game makes me so anxious for some reason. I just got the rathian mission but I am literally scared of doing it. Don't know what's wrong with me.

You barely survived the previous monster. What the heck are you doing trying to take on an even nastier one?
I was starting a mission with 2 randoms tonight, and kicked a cat while walking to the Barroth. This apparently had the effect of booting them off the internet, as they dropped connection, and as of now they're still offline
I killed a gobul with them in probably 15 minutes flat earlier, too bad all runs can't go as smoothly. Good 4 player runs are just so good, nothing but KOs, knockdowns, and staggers all the way through.
Currently stuck on urgent, helped out people though to the point my rank points are locked too heh. Oh well I'll get you baroth! Fun times with the peeps tonight.
This is trezlan till the next hunt!

The herbivore egg carrying missions are so much worse than any hunting mission.
Oh god that reminds me. I had a traumatic experience.
My wiimote died while I was running through area 4 of the sandy plains and I was rushing to change the batteries as I watched my guy get eaten to death by giant ants.
I also think people overlook the luddroth set, not only do you look like you're about to rob a 7/11 but divine blessing occasionally negates big attacks or lessons them so that you can take more hits.

I went with Barroth because of the attack bonus and the ability to run forever, mostly. Next I'm going to get the Rathalos set, not because of any particular stat but because look at it it's completely fucking awesome http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Armors

I just got the armor set today, after complaining about the royal ludroth yesterday I have no problem facing him now, actually I kind of like facing him :P, but the armor set looks like I am wearing a winter coat with a hood made out of bananas, I kind of like it.
I also took down the barroth and gobul today, both were pains in the ass though, tonight has been very productive though.

I want to get the Ingot armor next, after Barroth (does anyone want to help me grind the shit out of that later?), and then in the Rare 3 category I think I want Agnaktor and Ceadeus.
Fuck stats. You have to get armor that looks cool. That's what the deciding factor should always be!
In 20 minutes I'm going to hop on for a quick quest, too, if anyone wants to play. I just hooked up a 240 watt subwoofer that I had sitting in some corner and want to test Monster Hunter with it.

In the previous thread people were talking about breaking Quraopeco's face. How does one tell if one has managed this? I assume some kind of visual indicator.

He will reel back in pain, and you will see splinters of his beak explode from his face. Afterwards you should be able to notice the cracks in his beak.

The little mounds that those bugs pop out of.
edit: well, they aren't that little. Pretty sure you break them by having Barroth charge through them.

Make poison bombs and poison them to death so that doesn't happen!

...and good luck getting those Altaroth Jaws! muahahahaha!!
but that armor plus a status effect weapon is soo worth it, especially the Blademaster version that boosts how long weapons stay sharpened.

How dare they not push HD graphics out of the Wii!
I wholeheartedly agree. After seeing what this game looks like in HD, I'm quite bummed it was "limited" to the WII. Cest la vie.
You guys gotta' help me decide between the Rampart+ path and the Barioth path, though.
Elder Babel Spr (R) (Rampart+) - Attack: 437, Affinity (Critical Hit Chance): 0%, Awakening: +300 Fire, Defense: +24
Sabertooth (G) (Barioth) - Attack: 368, Affinity (Critical Hit Chance): 55%, Attribute: 420 Ice
