File conversion and the lack thereof

ok, so I have a few DVDs I'd like to be converted into mpg/avi/wmv (whatever I can get) so I can just place the files on my external harddrive and play them through my 360. They're from a camp I work at, so the "episodes" are really just different chapters of the same movie file. I already have the program to chop up video files. I just need the video files first.

I've tried a variety of programs such as Bitripper, DVDx, and AutoGK but no matter what I do, when the DVD is finally "ripped" the audio is waaaay off. It starts off lagging by a second or two, but by a third of the way in the audio is 30 to 40 seconds behind.

I've tried ripping the DVD to VOB files and running the avi encoders from the files to make sure it wasn't a problem with my DVD drive and I still get the same lack of a/v sync.

Is there a trick to making those programs work proper or is there a different program I should use? Free is best but if you can show me something with enough of a trial I can properly test it before buying, that would work too. Advice on proper settings would be nice aswell.

Did you try using DVDShrink? I've used that for years and it's always given me excellent results.

Check the DVD and the ripped video to make sure that the FPS is the same on both.

DVDShrink just creates ISO or VOB files, right?

    I want avi or wmv.

How do I check the FPS on the DVD?

Most players will list it in the same place as it would when you view any other video.

    Handbrake
You can use it with or without DVDShrink.
I've had an issue once in a while with audio sync, but works 90%+ of the time.

Seconding handbrake. You might also try DVDFab, but it's not free.
