Finding out if a wide ranged of artists have released albums in the past couple years

So I need to update my music collection. At home I listen to pandora which catches new albums now and then, and my 80gb zune at work which rarely gets updated.

I haven't listened to the radio in years mainly because I have a 10 minute commute, so I miss a lot of new albums.

Is there a website out there that will let me quickly add a bunch of bands and show a discography? Bonus points if I can only list albums released in the last 3-4 years. Extra points if it will alert me in some way when a new album comes out.

My usual solution for this is to check wikipedia for bands I can remember at the moment, which seems very 1996.

I think you can check Wikipedia for records released by year as an overall. Might be your best bet.

you could find a website that caters to your tastes, like say, pitchfork, and go through their "best of XXXX" lists and find a lot of music worth listening to.

when I'm wanting some new suggestions I look through that

I don't think anything like that really exists. Checking wikipedia or allmusic is probably your best bet.

You can go to http://www.metacritic.com/music/ and check down the sidebar on the lefthand side, which will have those best-of lists as well as a long list of everything that's come out in the last few months.

I usually use Wikipedia when I discover a band and want to see their discography.
