I'm experiencing some moderate discomfort with my right wrist pain and was looking for temporary remedy. It feels like the top part of the wrist is a little tense and as I'm typing, it causes a bit of discomfort enough to get frustrated while typing. I'm not really sure when it really started but it's been at least a year, I've gone through rougher times. At one point, holding 5 lbs of weight on top of my palm was impossible because of the pain but most of the time, it doesn't really hurt and when it does, it's not that severe. My guess is that I probably hurt it while snowboarding, I fell on my right wrist really hard more than a couple of times, OR fell on my wrist while doing brazilian jiu jitsu.
I did go to a doctor for it and he was like, it's fine, don't worry about it. But it creeps up to me every once in a while and it's very discomforting to use keyboard and mouse. And I'm in the middle of writing a long long long paper so if anybody has experienced a pain like that on your wrist, share your temporary remedy just so that I can finish writing my paper. I will go to a different doctor in about two weeks when my school is over (my school is far from my home).
There's a whole lot of advice about RSI out there.
I got to a really scary point with wrist pain and switched to a split keyboard. I likewise swapped my optical trackball to a regular optical mouse. I also started paying attention to my posture in front of the computer, and make sure to pull my hands back and give them a rest as often as possible.
I also learned enough Dvorak typing to start using it a bit, but went back to Qwerty due to its universality and not finding it significantly less straining.
Anyway, strain hasn't come back, even though I've been without a split keyboard for about 8 months after my previous one met an ill fate.
So, immediate changes you can make: better posture, frequent breaks/try not to lock your wrists in one position for long, and switch to a split keyboard if you can.

Your doctor sounds like an idiot. Go find another one. Don't fuck with RSIs/carpal tunnel. Once you start hurting, you need to stop typing and do something else if you can.

This. Go to another doctor ASAP. I just started to feel the same symptoms two months ago and the doctor told me it could be carpal tunnel. I´ll have an electroconduction test over my arm next week. Search in the internet exercises for your wrists and aldo do the frequent breaks.
Again, go to the doctor now.
